Garrick Freitas Takes Impressive Overall Win At Grueling Vegas To Reno

| August 23, 2012

12bitd_v2r_freitas_03(Reno, NV – Aug 20 2012) Garrick Freitas and the Freitas Motorsports team had a flawless race at the Best in the Desert, Vegas to Reno (V2R) off-road race.

V2R is the longest off-road race in America starting outside Las Vegas in Beatty, Nevada and finishing 534 miles north in Dayton. The race is known for tough terrain and the hot, humid, monsoon weather conditions that occur in August; neither of which had any effect on the Freitas Motorsports team. This win makes it two in a row at V2R for the Freitas Motorsports team.

With the level of competition today, all races are sprint races but that doesn’t mean a smart driver can’t use a little more brains than brawn to pull off a win. That was the case with Garrick for the most part. He qualified 24th out of 54, which put the team in a solid, mid-pack starting position on race day. He drove his Kroyer powered, Jimco Champion quickly but precisely from the start; making great time and avoiding any flat tires.

“We had no trouble at all,” said Garrick, “We drove smart in the dust until about mile 300 where we got some clean air. We then made some great runs between pit stops where the crew did a perfect job all day. Our General Tires worked flawlessly in all the different conditions we had from sand and silt to mud and rocks. When it got down to the last 100 miles we knew it was time to go for it. We had Robby Gordon closing in so we went wide open to the finish; taking the win!”

12bitd_v2r_freitas_02After some tough luck that tested their resolve earlier in the season, the Freitas Motorsports team has returned to the form they displayed in 2011 when they nearly won the BITD, Class 1500 Championship. The overall victory sends a message to the rest of the field and puts them solidly behind Robby Gordon going into the last two races of the BITD series.

“That was the most fun I’ve had in the race car this year,” says Garrick, “It wouldn’t have been possible without my entire crew, my co-drivers Steve Shahan, Trevor Freita and sponsors. All the hard work we’ve put in is starting to pay off, we can’t wait for the Bluewater Desert Challenge October 12-14 in Parker, Arizona.” For more details see www.bitd.com.
