Logano Makes History at Dover

| June 8, 2013

NASCAR Nationwide Series: 5-Hour Energy 200Mooresville, NC (June 4, 2013) Joey Logano added to the excitement at Dover International Speedway as he overtook race leader Kyle Busch on the final pit stop and won the 5-Hour Energy Nationwide Series race on Saturday, June 1st.  With only 37 laps to go, a caution brought the field in for a final stop.  Logano changed four tires all night, but made the last minute call for only two right-side tires.  That call turned out to be a race-winning move.  Logano powered his Roush Yates Engine off pit row as the new race leader and pulled away from Brian Vickers for a winning margin of about 10 car-lengths.  Logano’s win made driver history with an unprecedented third consecutive victory on the Nationwide circuit.

Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, LA hosted a whopping $10,000-to-win Doug Murphy Memorial for open-wheel dirt modifieds on Saturday, June 1st.  A full 98 modifieds were in attendance including Roush Yates Engines driver Jeremy Payne.  Payne won the first heat race from 2nd and his second heat race from back at the 10th starting position.  This topped 97 other modifieds to win the Larry Shaw Race Car bonus based on total passing points.  After starting on the pole in the 40-lap finale, Payne was able to hold off top contenders for the hefty purse.

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour made a stop in Lawton, OK where they hosted a 25-lap Sooner Region event at Lawton Speedway on June 1st.  Tony Bruce Jr. was able to win his heat race to earn a spot in the redraw.

“Fortunately my sister was there,” he said.  “Every time I get a redraw she pulls a one.”

As promised, his good-luck charm came through to help him start on the pole for the main event. With a difficult race surface, Bruce Jr. found the momentum on top to be the way to go.  He capitalized on his starting position and led all 25 laps to pick up his second feature victory of the season.
