2013 LUCAS OIL OFF ROAD RACING SERIES GLEN HELEN WEEKEND ROUNDUP

— All the Action from Rounds 9 and 10 at the Glen Helen Raceway –

CORONA, Calif. (Aug. 6, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS), the nation’s fastest growing short course off road racing series, returned to southern California for rounds 9 and 10 at the Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The action started early on Friday, July 26th with teams hitting the track for practice sessions and qualifiers in an effort to get ready for Saturdayand Sunday’s racing excitement. This is LOORRS second visit to southern California this season with rounds 9 and 10 being the first night race of the series. As the lights lit up the track the Glen Helen Raceway saw a record number of racers and fans come out to participate over the weekend. The three day LOORRS event in San Bernardino took place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 29, 2013 and showcased some of the closest racing action of the year.

Race Recap – Saturday, July 27th 
Pro 4 Unlimited – The weekend got into full swing as Pro 4 started round 9 of LOORRS at Glen Helen Raceway with the #21 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools of Rob MacCachren sitting on the pole. The #99 Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Ford of Kyle Leduc took a quick lead in the first lap followed by Eric Barron in the #32 LAT Racing Oils/Rancho Performance Drivetrain Toyota. Rob MacCachren fell to third with the #17 Lucas Oil/General Tire Nissan of Carl Renezeder in fourth and Greg Adler fifth in the #10 ProComp/4 Wheel Parts Ford. Kyle LeDuc and Barron battled for the lead with Leduc pulling forward and taking the lead in front of Barron in second place. Kyle Leduc took a strong lead in front of the pack but a full course caution tightened the drivers back up to battle the remaining eight laps. A quickly following second full course yellow took Corry Weller out of the race as she was towed off the track.

Going into the second half of the round 9 Pro 4 Unlimited race was Kyle Leduc in the lead followed by Barron in second and MacCachren in the third position. Going into lap 13 Kyle LeDuc and Barron slammed into one another causing Kyle LeDuc to fall behind and eventually pull off the track in the following lap to end his race. Barron quickly followed LeDuc off to track in lap 15 with a mechanical malfunction. MacCachren took the lead followed up by Adler in second and Curt LeDuc pulling behind in third.  At the white flag Adler battled MacCachren for first with Adler pulling forward and holding a strong position into the checkered flag. Adler took first place in round 9 of the Pro 4 Unlimited for the first Pro 4 Unlimited victory of his career. Rounding out the podium was MacCachren in second followed by Curt LeDuc in third.

Pro Buggy Unlimited – Round 9 of the Pro Buggy Unlimited began with the #65 Jamar Performance Products/Mickey Thompson Alumi Craft of Dave Mason Jr. followed by defending Pro Buggy Unlimited Champion, John Fitzgerald in his #14 BFGoodrich Tires/Napa Auto Parts Alumi Craft. Fitzgerald took an early lead ahead of Mason who was followed by the #24 K&N/Tri-State Materials Alumi Craft of Bradley Morris in third. The second lap was a battle for first as Morris pulled past Mason Jr. and Fitzgerald. Mason Jr. experienced engine issues with steam coming from his engine bay causing him to slow his pace in lap seven. Cooley took the advantage and pulled into second in front of Fitzgerald on the following lap.

After a full course yellow flag from Eric Fitch’s stopped car Cooley was able to pass Morris for the lead on the restart of the lap. Greinke also pulled forward quickly and took third from Fitzgerald and eventually taking second. At the checkered flag Cooley took first in the #22 Competitive Metals/MasterCraft Safety Alumi Craft with Greinke second in the #1 SC Fuels/Fortin Racing, Inc. Racer and Fitzgerald in third to complete the podium.

Pro Lite Unlimited – The Pro Lite Unlimited round had the largest field of the night with 20 drivers entering the track. Round 9 was a special occasion for Myles Cheek who was making his Pro Lite debut. At the start of the race Bradley Morris in the #24 K&N/Maxxis Ford sat on the pole with RJ Anderson in the #1 LoanMart/WalkerEvansRacing.com Dodge in second followed up by Brian Deegan in the #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford in the third position.  At the drop of the green flag Morris dropped to second with RJ Anderson in the #1 LoanMart/WalkerEvansRacing.com Dodge taking the lead. Anderson is the current defending champion of the Pro Lite division and four wins for the 2013 season.

The race was off to a slow start with two full course caution yellow flags at the end of lap one. With Trenton Briley coming to stop and Eric Hunter rolling but both were able to continue. Morris took advantage of the restart and passed Anderson for the lead. A third full course caution yellow flag was pulled by a rollover by Chris Lawrence on lap 6 and kept the action slow until lap nine. Morris was able to keep the lead and take first at the checkered flag. Finishing out the podium was Anderson in second and Creed in third for round 9 of the Pro Lite division.

Pro 2 Unlimited – The final race of the night was Pro 2 Unlimited for round 9 at Glen Helen Raceway. Marty Hart in the #15 ReadyLift Off Road Suspension/Maxxis Ford was on the pole at the drop of the green flag and kept a strong lead in the first lap. Following Hart was Carl Renezeder in the #17 Lucas Oil/General Tire Nissan in second and Robby Woods third in the #99 Lucas Slick Mist/Method Race Wheels Chevrolet. Lap three brought out a full course caution yellow flag with Pro 4 Unlimited winner Greg Adler losing a right rear tire. Menzies took a quick pass by both Woods and Renezeder to take second. A small fire on Joseph Provenza’s truck caused a second full course caution yellow flag.

All drivers were able to hold their positions for five continuous laps until another full course caution yellow flag on lap sixteen. At the green flag Woods and Renezeder fell behind with MacCachren taking the third position. With another full course caution yellow flag caused by Mike Porter’s truck stopped in a dangerous position another restart caused a fight for the lead. Menzies was able to pass Hart, who had held a strong lead, and take first into the white flag. After a multi-vehicle battle between Deegan, MacCachren and Kyle LeDuc the final lap was complete. Menzies took first followed by Hart in second and Deegan crossing the checkered flag in third. In the end Deegan was penalized for the last lap incident with MacCachren and docked one lap putting him in thirteenth. With Menzies in first and Hart in second the podium was completed by Woods in third.

Race Recap – Sunday, July 28th 
Pro 4 Unlimited – As round 10 began at Glen Helen it was Eric Barron in the #32 LAT Racing Oils/Rancho Performance Drivetrain Toyota sitting on the pole followed up by the #99 Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Ford of Kyle Leduc in second and the #17 Lucas Oil/General Tire Nissan of Carl Renezeder falling in third. The round 9 Pro 4 Unlimited winner, Greg Adler, rounded out the lineup in the last spot. At the start of the race the #99 Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Ford of Kyle LeDuc pulled to the lead with Ryan Beat second in the #51 MavTV/Lunarpages Ford and Curt LeDuc third in the #43 UltraWheel.com/K&N Ford. A full course caution yellow flag was pulled at the end of the first lap with Renezeder being towed off the track due to a loss of the front tire and wheel. Todd LeDuc was able to make a move past Curt LeDuc and steal third. Going into lap six Kyle LeDuc was able to hold a strong lead in the first position. Following behind Kyle LeDuc was Todd LeDuc and Beat battling for second with Todd LeDuc taking second in lap seven.

The second half of the Pro 4 race began with another full course yellow flag caused by Barron losing his right front tire and wheel pulling him out of the race for round 10. Kyle LeDuc was able to keep a hold on his first position while Todd LeDuc fell in second and MacCachren passed Beat to take third. Todd LeDuc lost his second place position in lap 19 after a brief fire on his vehicle caused a full course caution yellow flag. This allowed MacCachren to take second followed by Bailey in third. Kyle LeDuc and MacCachren were able to battle for first until another full course caution yellow flag flew for Adler who lost a right front tire and wheel. Going into the final lap only five trucks remained. At the checkered flag Kyle LeDuc took first for his first win of the season, Bailey in second, and MacCachren in third. Bailey was later penalized and MacCachren took second with Beat taking third on the podium.

Pro Buggy Unlimited – At the start of the race it was round 9 Pro Lite winner Bradley Morris in the #24 K&N/Maxxis Ford sitting on the pole. At the green flag the lead was taken by Adrian Cenni in the #11 Bay City Electric Works/Ramtek Alumi Craft followed by Greinke in second and Morris falling to third. After a full course caution yellow flag in the first lap Morris was able to full to the lead passing both Greinke and Cenni.

After a rollover by Cooley, who was able to continue, the lead was held by Morris in the #24 K&N/Kroyer Racing Engines Alumi Craft, Greinke in the #1 SC Fuels/Redline Performance Racer in second and Cenni, Job in the #7 Loctite/Toyo Tires Alumi Craft rounding out third. Cenni lost his third position after a brief spin out caused him to pull off the track allowing Job in the #7 Loctite/Toyo Tires Alumi Craft to take third. After a full course caution yellow flag from Cooley, it was Morris holding a strong lead, Greinke in second, and Mason Jr. in third. Going into the final lap Mason Jr. experienced a flat front tire allowing Fitzgerald take his position and fall into third. At the checkered flag it was Morris in first taking his second win for the weekend, Greinke in second, and Fitzgerald taking a strong third for the podium.

Pro Lite Unlimited – Sitting on the pole at the start of the round 10 Pro Lite division was round 10 Pro Buggy winner and round 9 Pro Lite winner Bradley Morris in the #24 K&N/Maxxis Ford. In the first lap a full course caution yellow flag was pulled after Myles Cheek, who made is Pro Lite debut in round 9, had a fire onboard his vehicle. After continuing the race Morris held his first position followed by Sheldon Creed in second and RJ Anderson in third. Another full course caution yellow flag was pulled after second position holder Creed rolled his vehicle. The yellow flag was quickly followed by a red flag after Jimmy Fishback rolled near Creed. Creed was able to continue the race while Fishback was attended by safety crews. Fishback was removed from his vehicle and both he and the vehicle were taken out of the race. After the red flag delay Morris was holding strong in the lead with Anderson and Currie holding their positions in second and third.

In the second half of the Pro Lite race Creed rolled his vehicle for a second time causing him to leave the race for the remainder of the night. During the full course caution yellow flag Anderson received assistance from the hot pit causing him to lose his second place position allowing Currie and Deegan to battle for second. Another full course caution yellow flag was pulled in lap 16 for the fourth vehicle rollover of the night with Chris Lawrence. At the checkered flag it was Morris in the #24 K&N/Kicker Ford taking the lead followed by Currie in the #2 Monster Energy/Oakley Jeep and Deegan in the #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford in third. Morris’ win made Lucas Oil Off Road history as he was the first driver to win in both a buggy and a truck race. His win also marks a Pro Lite Unlimited win for the second consecutive year.

Pro 2 Unlimited – Round 10 of the Pro 2 Unlimited began with the #15 ReadyLift Off Road Suspension/GearUp2Go.com Ford of Marty Hart on the pole. Following his second place win Pro Lite, Deegan in the #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford was close behind Hart followed by Carl Renezeder in the #17 Lucas Oil/General Tire Nissan in third. The Pro 2 Unlimited was the only race of the weekend to contain no full course caution yellow flags. Drivers were able to have a strong hold on their positions through the first nine laps.

Front leaders Hart and Deegan kept a strong lead in front of the remaining drivers and began to lap past the traffic. In lap 10, Renezeder and Woods made a battle for third place with Woods temporarily taking third until Renezeder recovered his position. Renezeder lost his third position in lap 14 when he spun out allowing Woods to regain the third position. Hart kept a strong lead in first as he crossed the checkered flag taking his second win of the season. Following Hart was Deegan in second and Woods in third on the podium.
