Vegas to Reno - Hall 41118/24/09 (Reno, NV) – Rod Hall Racing captured two class victories at the grueling three-day, 1000 mile TSCO Vegas to Reno off-road race. Chad Hall drove the V8 HUMMER H3 Alpha in the Stock Full 4100 class and Emily Miller
piloted the H3 I5 in the 3100 Stock Mini class. Both drivers ran the entire distance with their co-drivers Thad Stump and Sam Cothrun. In 2008, Miller ironmanned the Vegas to Reno, becoming the first woman to do so. She was
able to make it a repeat for 2009 with double the distance.

The race was broken up into 300+ mile days, with the second day the longest at 360 miles. The course was silty and rough with sections of long, sweeping graded roads. Both teams tackled mechanical issues on Day 1. Before Pit 5,

Chad Hall lost the rack and pinion after a seal failed. The crew was able to replace the rack but had to finish the fix after the finish line closed, forcing Hall to take a penalty for the first day. With a last minute withdrawal of his primary competitor, Chad knew he would be able to restart the following day and work for the win. Despite the time penalty, he posted an overall time of 31:10:51.

Miller had a part failure inside the rear differential at approximately race mile 160. The crew worked fast to replace the rear end and she was back on the course with only a minute to spare before the official pit closing time. The result was a
loss of 42 minutes to race leader and 2007 3100 Class Champion, Mike Falkowsky. On Day 2, Emily and co-driver Sam Cothrun worked hard to push the pace and chip away the time deficit. She was able to make up 104 minutes giving #3111 a 62-minute cushion going into Day 3 and grabbed an additional 72 minute gain on Day 3 for a total time of 29:21:41, approximately 1 ½ hours over Falkowsky.
