The Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department, Walker River Basin Communities Foundation and the Yerington Lions Club are proud to announce the arrival of new life-saving equipment for the department.

Funding and grants received from the Walker River Basin Communities Foundation and the Yerington Lions Club made possible the new rescue vehicle – a specially-prepared 2010 Polaris Ranger 6×6 and a trailer.

The fire department prepared a Patient EMS skid to go along with the Ranger while a specially-designed trailer from Trailers Plus was also obtained to transport the trailer to emergency sites.

These are another of many life-saving equipment the Y/MVFD has available to answer any type of call that may come.

After two separate quad accidents this summer in areas that were not accessible to vehicles, the fire department pursued the purchase of this vehicle. It is equipped with six wheel drive, a specially-designed skid that allows a medic to tend to a patient while being transported to an awaiting ambulance, rope rescue, and patient recovery equipment, and the specially designed trailer from Trailers Plus upon which the Ranger will be stored and thus be ready for immediate response.

The Y/MVFD also plans on purchasing a wildland fire fighting skid that will assist its personnel in wildland fire fighting.

The Fire Department will respond this vehicle to any off-road situation that may have limited access, special events like the Night in the Country, the Fair and Rodeo and to street festivals. The fire department and district are also looking forward to putting it to work with day-to-day operations at the department.

“This is a great asset to the department and the community and would not have been possible without Walker River Basin Communities Foundation and the Yerington Lions Club,” said Chief Scott Draper.
