Cequent Announces the Reese Goose Box

| August 19, 2011

A major breakthrough in RV towing

Cequent Performance Products’ introduction of the new Reese Goose Box pin box replacement is guaranteed to be a boon to RV enthusiasts who use a gooseneck hitch to tow their fifth wheel trailer. The Reese Goose Box is a single unit which replaces the old RV Pin Box/adaptor system and uses proven Reese 5th Airborne technology. The combination of an airbag, dual shocks and rubber bumpers used in the Goose Box provides multi-directional shock absorption for a smoother driving experience that RV enthusiasts will greatly appreciate.

Goose Box was thoroughly put through its paces at both Cequent’s state-of-the-art test laboratory and the Bosch Proving Grounds. Performance tests were conducted on a traditional pin box, existing gooseneck extension adaptors, and the Goose Box. The results were conclusive. Rich Pilarski, Bosch senior engineer, reports, “The overall results showed that the Goose Box was very similar in performance to the standard (fifth wheel) pin box.”

After reviewing the Bosch Test reports for the Reese Goose Box, Lippert Components, Inc. (the world’s largest manufacturer of RV frames) accepts the Goose Box for the towing of RVs with gooseneck hitches. In fact, the Goose Box is the first RV gooseneck hitch adapter to be accepted by a RV frame manufacturer. “The Goose Box is a great solution for fifth-wheel RV users who prefer to use gooseneck hitches,” said Jason Lippert, CEO of Lippert Components. “We are very pleased with the results of the thorough testing of the Goose Box, which demonstrates that it is compatible with our RV frame. As a result, the proper installation of a Goose Box pin box will be acceptable under our RV frame warranty.”

The patent pending Goose Box will be available both as a retrofit kit in the aftermarket and on new models directly through RV manufacturers. Lippert Components has been designated the exclusive supplier of Goose Box to the RVOE industry.

The Reese Goose Box replaces current solutions in the marketplace which include adapters that bolt directly on to an existing pin box or special Fifth wheel conversion hitches. Each has their disadvantages:

Fifth Wheel Conversion Hitches: Conversion hitches sit in the truck bed and are attached to the towing vehicle through the existing gooseneck ball hole. These hitches weigh a great deal and need to be removed and stored every time the gooseneck towing function is used or when full access to the truck bed is required. The Goose Box eliminates this chore by being installed on the RV, not the truck. In addition to improved towing performance and shorter hook-up time, gas mileage is improved once the RV is parked.

Bolt-to-Pin Box Adaptors:  These extension style adaptors create excessive stress on the RV frame, provide a rough ride for the owner, and can void the frame warranty. According to Pilarski, “The standard pin box with the extension was the least desirable when considering the rainflow analysis of the Von Mises stress and relative damage results.”
