Carson National Forest Releases Transportation Management Proposed Action

The Carson National Forest, located in northern New Mexico, has released Transportation Management Proposed Actions for the Jicarilla, Canjilon, EI Rito and Tres Piedras Rangers Districts for public review. A copy of the summary documents, the proposed actions, maps and figures can be found on the Forest website at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/carson/recreation/travel_mgmt/documents.shtml. The public is invited to visit any of the district offices to view a larger version of the maps.
 
For the Jicarilla Ranger District, Alternative 1 of the Proposed Action is the preferred alternative. For the Canjilon, El Rito and Tres Piedras Ranger Districts, Alternative 1 is the preferred alternative. The Forest Service (FS) will be completing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Jicarilla district and one combined Environmental Assessment for the Canjilon, El Rito and Tres Piedras districts.

The Forest Service is asking for your comments during a 30-day comment period, which began on July 16, 2009, and will end August 17, 2009. The purpose of this comment period is to provide the public the opportunity to comment on the proposal before a final decision is made.

Comments will be most helpful if they identify the specific actions you think are needed, why those changes should be made and how such a change would better meet your interests.

Comments may also be hand delivered weekdays 8:00 am – 4:30 pm to the Supervisor’s Office at the above address. Oral comments must be provided at the Supervisor’s Office during normal business hours via telephone or in person, or if during non-business hours, must be at an official agency function (such as a public meeting) designed to elicit public comment.
