Spectro Oils, EBC Brakes and Slime Tire Sealant from MTA – Another in the Boreno Series
The Borneo trip is an oil nightmare. You already know that changing the fluids in the RZR is a royal PIA. The Engine oil is different than the tranny oil is different than the front diff which is different than the rear diff.
Taking a few complete sets of oils to change out creates a big box of oil cans which takes a lot of room which is something we can’t really afford, but will make room just the same.
One of the common misnomers about the Polaris RZR is that the various oils for it are only available from Polaris. First you should know there are laws against requiring you to purchase oil from the manufacturer. In fact many aftermarket oils are as good or better. We called Spectro Oils and found everything we need. Spectro is a well respected name in motorsports oils. They have a full line of oils for just about any motorsports application. Give Spectro a chance and you’ll find it’s a great oil. Available at you local MTA dealers. www.spectro-oils.com
With all of the mud and water we will be seeing on this trip we are a bit concerned the stock brake pads won’t survive the whole trip so we are taking a full set of replacement EBC brand brakes from MTA.
The EBC “R” series Sintered copper brakes we are taking are designed specifically for duty in wet, muddy and sandy conditions. The kind that eat normal brakes for breakfast. We haven’t changed the stock brakes out yet specifically because we want to know how long they will last under these severe conditions. We’ll keep a close eye on them and do a quick field change to the EBCs as soon as they start to go. www.ebcbrakes.com
Thorns and sharp rocks can create pinhole leaks in just about any tire so we decided we needed a good tire sealant. MTA hooked us up with a gallon of SLIME tire sealant to take care of the issue. Slime will repair up to 1/4″ holes and remains liquid inside the tire. Slime has what it calls “Fibro Seal Technology”. Imagine small fibers ground up and held in a solution (the green goo). When you get a puncture these fibers gravitate to the puncture and pack together building a flexible long lasting plug. It is non-toxic, non flammable, water soluble and contains rust inhibitors to protect steel rims. Slime can also help seal stubborn beadlocks that tend to want to leak. The gallon SLIME comes with a dispenser pump a hose and a tire valve core remover. It is simple to install, just remove the tore valve core, attach the hose to the pump and the valve stem and start pumping. It’s about one ounce per pump so it is easy to measure. It will be nice not having to worry about fixing small leaks on the trail. It comes with a two year guarantee. www.slime.com
