Shannon has left the country.  And he has surfaced in Borneo thanks to his SPOT.

He checked in today, suprisingly by text!
“I am ok, tracking is on. Don’t know why delay but suspect thick trees.  I have stories but can’t get a satellite lock for bgan, will keep trying.  Fun but rain and mud is way bad.  This is Serious Stuff.  Truck fell through a bridge today.  10 Vehicles had a 400km detour to catch up. “

His SPOT Tracking page is available at: www.atvutah.com/spot look at Redman’s.  It does seem like there is a bit of a delay in the points appearing, which as he mentioned, he thinks is because of the density of the jungle.

Have you heard of this adventure? 15 days crossing through the Jungles of Borneo not leaving 1 degree of the equator (60 miles)…in his RZRs.  Yes, serious!

We have been watching Shannon build the machine that he thinks he needs to accomplish this amazing journey.  He will be the only one that will have a UTV on the trip, leaving him somewhat lonely for parts and accessories to borrow from.

I met the leader of the Borneo Equator Expedition ‘09 at SEMA in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago.  Justinus Sjahlim had some wise words,  “Everyone must be very careful, must be patient, and must slow down.  We all need to make it all the way.”

This is the longest journey that they put on … 2000km  (approx 1200 miles).  It involves 3 Governors and 3 Military Providences to get all the permits to make this happen.

From what I understand, there is a group of about 20 vehicles that will be in the jungle for a total of 15 days crossing Borneo while not veering more than 1 degree of the equator.  Everyday they will try and get as close to water as possible and stop before dark, which is around 6pm, to set up camp.  They will wake up around 6am with a 7am briefing for the day and head out at 8am.  This will happen for 15 days straight.  Amazing!

Not only do you have to be an adventurist, but physically and mentally fit as well!

Take some time to get caught up on Shannon’s install articles so you can see his RZRs decked out, then stay tuned to UTVWeekly.com Exclusive Section for the updates as Shannon crawls through the jungle.
