LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Facing his first of many challenges in the 2010 off road racing season, Rockstar Energy’s Off Road Racing Champion, Rob MacCachren, charged his Alumi Craft single-seat 1600 car to an impressive victory over a stacked field of the fastest competitors in the world at the season opener of the 2010 SCORE Desert Series.

MacCachren is a seven time SCORE season class point champion and this victory marks his 44th career SCORE class victory.  The Las Vegas veteran off road racer is tied with two other racers at seven wins each, the most single class wins at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.

The SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge has always been a hard charging all out battle of the top off road racers in the world and this year was no different.  A field of 21 1-2 1600 racers began the two-day event that kicked off within a stone’s throw of downtown Laughlin, Nevada.  The race course was a brutal 6.25 mile track, which featured some of the most harsh terrain Southern Nevada has to offer.  Desert racers battled over eight laps each day for a combined 100-mile two-day race event.

After the Saturday’s race, MacCachren finished in the top spot maintaining a slight 4-second lead over Cory Bory.  In fact, the top three racers were only separated by 8-seconds. MacCachren set his sights on the smoothest lines early Sunday morning and raced at full-tilt until he took the checkered flag in his Rockstar/BFGoodrich Tires sponsored 1-2 1600 race car.

MacCachren said, “Saturday’s race was really tight and going into Sunday’s race, I knew we were going to have to work hard for the victory. I was behind the first two laps and I knew that I had to make up valuable time.

‘We’ve worked very hard on our car setup all of last season, but today it all came down to the last few laps of racing.  Even when we crossed the finish line, I was unsure of whether or not we won.  We’ve been working closely with FOX Racing Shox and they have developed some new suspension components that are working very well.  Alumi Craft continues to engineer quality racecars and of course, we couldn’t be this fast without the power of FAT Performance.  Greg and all the guys at FAT continue to build fast and reliable engine packages.  We matched our engine package up with a Dave Folts Transmission gearbox and this combination has proven to be very good.

And what about those BFGoodrich Tires! They are the best and they’ve never let me down.  Once again, we raced all weekend without a single flat tire.  Winning at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge is a great way to kick off the season.”

MacCachren also raced in SCORE Trophy-Truck where he finished seventh in class in the No. 20 Rockstar Energy Drink/MasterCraft Racing Ford F-150.  An elite field of 28 starters began the two-day 100-mile race and in the end, only eight finished.  MacCachren claimed the seventh position driving the #20 Trophy Truck. MacCachren covered the 100-miles and finished with a time of 2:22:49 placing him in a great position leading to the next race in the 2010 SCORE Desert Series in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
