Yoshimura Riders Win Again

Chino, Calif. – January 25, 2010 – Hot off of his first career victory last week in Phoenix, Arizona, Rockstar Makita Suzuki rookie 450 rider Ryan Dungey, powered by Yoshimura, scored win number two in Anaheim on Saturday night.

The Supercross series returned to Angel Stadium in a very wet Anaheim, California, for round number three. Southern California was hit by huge storms and a muddy race was anticipated, but thanks to some incredible work by the track crew, by race time the track was excellent and very technical.

Austin Stroupe got the holeshot in Heat #2 and the Main Event with his Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450.

The stage was set for some great racing. Ryan got the holeshot in his heat race and easily pulled away to the win. “After the heat race, I felt really confident in my bike going into the main,” Dungey said. “The bike was working really well. The Yoshimura pipe makes it pull really hard coming out of the corners, but then it has a lot of over-rev, too. It makes it much easier to clear obstacles and concentrate on lines.”

In fact, Yoshimura-powered RM-Z450s took the holeshot in every heat race and the main event. That’s impressive performance even legendary World Champion and Team Manager Roger DeCoster noticed. “Obviously the Yoshimura pipe is performing quite well, and what we really like about the pipes is that they’re very high quality. Overall, we are really happy with the Yoshimura products.”

In the main event, Suzuki rider Austin Stroupe grabbed the holeshot while teammate Dungey started fifth. At the end of the first lap, Dungey had powered up to third and settled in for quite a few laps. Near the three-quarter mark, Dungey ratcheted things up and passed for the lead and then pulled away. At the checkers, Dungey had more than a three-second lead, easily winning his second race of the season. He is the only rider to podium all three events (2nd at the opener in Anaheim, 1st in Phoenix, 1st in Anaheim 2).

Dungey was happy with the win. “I got a good jump off the gate, but I wheelied and clutched it. And then I wheelied and clutched it again, and then James [Stewart] edged me out,” Dungey said. “From there I had my work cut out for me and I think I was in fifth or sixth. But I was able to make some passes right away and get on Josh [Hill]’s rear wheel and in third. From there I just had to be patient, I had the speed and I had the lines, it was just a matter of letting it come and not rushing it. I was able to, in lap 12, make a good pass.”

This week the team will be in San Francisco, and Dungey is anticipating a good race. “I enjoy San Francisco. Last year they did a great job on the track with preparation, so I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
