Arizona Short Course Championship Series Round 2

In February The ASCC (Arizona Short Course Championship Series) debuted in Arizona. With high expectation the ASCC put on one of the best short course race Arizona has seen in a long time. March 26th would prove to be a new day and another race for the ASCC, and this month’s race would prove to be bigger and bader than the last one with twice the number of fans and 20 plus more vehicles entered it would be another exciting weekend of short course racing.
The second ASCC race took place on Friday and Saturday March 26th and 27th, at Speedworld Offroad Park in beautiful Surprise, Arizona. Action started Friday with practice and a trophy dash. With entries growing higher, but no to full potential due to the infamous MINT 400 race being the same weekend; wouldn’t stop racers and fans alike from having a great time and experiencing some of the most exciting short course action Arizona has seen. The trophy dash was 4 laps for each class, with Ron Dalke sweeping the win in the unlimited short course buggy class, and Kevin McCullough taking the win in the limited short course buggy class. Steve Arlia and Brian Cannon would both dominate the course with Arlia grabbing first in the stock truck class and Cannon taking first in the 1450 truck class. Carl Rohrer would battle it out and win in the unlimited desert buggy class and Brent McKee would dominate the limited desert buggy class. Last but not least Cody Rahders would win in the UTV class in a hard fought battle with Todd Ouellette. That would conclude the exciting day of racing.
Saturday would be the second day of the explosive event, with the stands filling up and the stock truck class racing with seven trucks today everyone knew it was going to be an exciting day of racing, with lots of carnage as well. The first races of the day were the heat races, which were 6 laps for all classes. When the dust settled Kyle Green beat out the reigning champ Steve Arlia who suffered a broken front axle in stock class; however he was close on the bumpers of the 1450 trucks. Brian Cannon once again dominated the 1450 class. Rick Thomas would dominate the overall truck and heavy metal class. A hard fought battle broke out in the desert buggy class, where Ed Beard would emerge victorious in his class ten car. The short course buggy unlimited class Brandon Bailey would win over veteran Joe Masek, and in the limited short course buggy class Kevin McCullough would seem unbeatable for he would win. In the new R1 rhino class Tyler Herzog would beat Corry Weller in a close race for the win. Last but definitely not least was the trophy karts. They were broken up into two classes the peewee and mini class. In The mini class Chase Ryan would beat his nine other racers for the win. In the peewee class there was another close race, with Connor Mcmullen sweeping the checkered flag in a hard fought battle with the thirteen other racers. Next was the big show the main event, where each racer would battle to cross the finish line first. These races were twelve laps, first up was the peewee trophy karts, which started in a land rush start with nine karts barreling into the first turned caused a lot of action. Connor Mcmullen would arise victorious in the peewee class. Next was the mini trophy karts these ten kids were highly competitive, not afraid to push one another out of the way, Kol Bailey would squeeze by Chas Ryan for the win. Next Ed Beard would lay down the law in the desert buggy class and win in the unlimited class. Young Dillon Ayers would chinch the win in the limited class. After that was the high flying R1 utv class, and Tyler Herzog would win another hard fought battle with Corry Weller. Next was the infamous land rush start of the trucks and buggies which proved to be exciting. Joe Masek skills would be tested but would win the unlimited buggy class and veteran short course racer Jeff Knupp coming fresh off a lucas oil series win, would beat Kevin McCullough for the win in limited buggy. The truck class would be just as exciting with the high flying action of the unlimited trucks and never die and door crunching spirit of the stock class. In the stock class Will Munns would upset Kyle Green and would win the stock class. Brian Cannon would lay down another great race and edge out Paul Holguin for the win in 1450. Rick Thomas would sweep the win for the overall and the heavy metal class. That would conclude an awesome weekend of racing and a great race and prove ASCC series will be here to stay.
