The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) previously alerted you about the current U.S. Forest Service (USFS) effort to rewrite the national forest system land management planning rule. The USFS has created a calendar of local roundtable meetings to provide interested stakeholders the opportunity to meet with local and federal administrators.  The purpose of these meetings is to gather ideas and input from the parties that use the forests and grasslands.

The AMA has attended the first of these meetings, along with other organizations and individual members of the motorized community. The result of those meetings makes it clear that the USFS must continue to hear the message of recreationists.  The AMA encourages everyone who is available to attend their local meeting.  If you can attend, a suggested list of highly effective talking points can be found by clicking here.
Continued involvement from the rider community is critical to a well-balanced and inclusive planning rule.  If you are interested in attending a local meeting near you and representing the voice of the motorized community to the USFS, the official list of meetings can be found by clicking here.
The USFS has also provided a webpage devoted to the planning rule process.  You can find more information on the rule and ongoing efforts at http://www.fs.usda.gov/planningrule or at the new USFS blog at http://blogs.usda.gov/usdablogs/planningrule.
The planning rule process will be ongoing, so please check back with the AMA for continued updates.  If you would also like to read a full draft of the AMA’s official comments to the USFS on the original Notice of Intent (NOI), please click here.
If you are able to attend one of the USFS meetings or provide your input to the process, thank you. If you would like to learn about other ways to get involved and protect the future of riding, please visit the AMA’s Get Involved page by clicking here.
