The New 2011 Can-Am Outlander 800R X xc Cross Country ATV
Reno, Nevada, June 8, 2010 – BRP’s 2011 Can-Am ATV line-up features two new ATV models with upgrades to existing models. The Can-Am Outlander 800R X xc and the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr bring the success of BRP’s X-Package concept to its popular Outlander line of recreational-utility ATVs.
“The expansion of our popular X-Package concept to the Can-Am Outlander 800R is a natural progression as we bring more to the ATV enthusiast,” said Yves Leduc, vice president and general manager, North American division. “Two important customer segments are addressed with these two new models. For the aggressive trail rider and the weekend warrior we have the Outlander 800R X xc and for the mud-riding enthusiast we offer the most complete and advanced mud-specific ATV the industry with the Outlander 800R X mr,” added Leduc.
The Outlander 800R X xc model was developed closely with Can-Am racers and race-team partner companies in the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series. After multiple championships in the GNCC race series BRP has taken valuable feedback from this strenuous form of off-road racing to develop the Outlander X xc ATV. Both the racer and the aggressive trail rider see a direct benefit of the racing experience in this model.
For the mud-riding enthusiast, the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr represents the most-advanced mud-specific ATV the industry has ever seen. Developed closely with Gorilla Axle, a leading company in mud riding and racing, this ATV has a variety of features that make it the clear choice for the mud rider. At the heart of the machine is the Can-Am-Exclusive Air-Controlled Suspension (ACS™), which allows the rider to adjust the ground clearance of the machine. With ACS, the mud rider no longer has to sacrifice comfort for ground clearance. BRP engineers did not stop there. The radiator has been relocated above the front rack for the ultimate in mud performance and a seamlessly integrated snorkel system places critical intakes to the highest point on the ATV. Finally, the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr comes equipped with 30-inch Gorilla Axle Silverback tires making it ready to tackle the deepest mud holes.
Can-Am also highlighted changes to its graphics across its ATV line with new color offerings. For 2011, Can-Am has gone to a more streamlined graphic approach across its ATV line and has a new white coloration for its Renegade™ ATV line. Finally, the Outlander XT-P line gets the addition of a sleek silver and black coloration package.
BRP also previewed its 2011 Can-Am ATV accessories line-up and off-road riding collections. Consumers can choose off-road gear based on their riding style and needs, no matter the weather. With lightweight breathable water repellence, race-ready quick-dry mobility, and the Can-Am ST-1 helmet that’s the ultimate quick-change artist, BRP has the Can-Am riding gear to enhance every ride.

Features & Benefits
Ride the ultimate trail machine, which is also designed to be the ultimate racing 4×4 right from the showroom floor. Inspired and tested by our factory racers on the Grand National Cross Country circuit, the Can-Am Outlander 800R X xc is designed to provide trail performance unprecedented on the showroom floor. Starting with the most powerful ATV engine in the industry* and add premium features like a fully adjustable suspension package and premium beadlock wheels and ITP Holeshot ATR tires, the Can-Am Outlander 800R X xc features all the additional benefits of the base Outlander 800R.
Rotax® 800R EFI V-Twin engine // This 80º V-twin engine is still the most powerful ATV engine in the industry* at 71 HP. The liquid-cooled, single overhead cam power plant has four valves per cylinder and is fed by a 46mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens‡ fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the engine’s performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or altitude. The progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise rock crawling or opening it up on the straights.
KYB high-performance suspension package // Up front, the Outlander 800R X xc features KYB Piggyback shocks with high- and low-speed compression adjustability and preload adjustment. Front travel is 8.5 inches (21.6 cm). The rear also features KYB shocks with remote reservoirs and high-speed and low-speed compression modification with preload adjustability. Rear suspension travel is 9 inches (23 cm).
Dual-mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) // The Can-Am DPS system has two modes meaning the rider can choose the amount of assist depending on the conditions. Each DPS-equipped model is fitted with a dual-mode selection for the ultimate in rider control depending on the conditions.
Visco-Lok QE front differential // Progressively transfers power from a slipping front wheel to the gripping one – automatically with no buttons to push or levers to pull. Plus, there’s no wheel hop or driveline wind-up so the system is totally transparent to the driver and extremely easy to steer. Can lock up to 100 percent with no rev or speed limiter. All DPS-equipped models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential. This differential, unlike some competitor’s differentials, does not have a speed or rev limiter.
12-inch (30.5 cm) aluminum beadlock wheels // Aluminum beadlock wheels mean added performance under heavy acceleration and cornering. A Can-Am exclusive design clamps the tire bead securely to the Outlander X xc wheel for the ultimate in performance. All GNCC Outlander racers use beadlocks and this is a feature coming directly from racer feedback.
25-inch (66 cm) ITP Holeshot AT R tires // This tire was developed with some of the top GNCC racers out on the toughest woods racing courses in the world.
1/2-inch (1.3 cm) diameter front sway bar // Front sway bar reduces body roll in aggressive cornering conditions and will be an advantage for the performance trail rider or cross-country racer.
Aggressive footpegs // Raised steel footpegs for aggressive cross-country racing and trail riding. Pre-runner front bumper // Pre-runner-type front bumper is made for aggressive riding and racing situations. Protects in tight, wood-riding a racing conditions.
Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension // Trailing arm design provides excellent control and stability, especially in rough terrain by eliminating scrub. Wheels move rearward as they move up and down producing a smoother ride than the competition, and the ATV does not waver down the trail. Plus, TTI has 75% fewer parts than competitive designs and significantly decreases tire wear.
Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) frame // Rather than the common tubular box, the SST frame is a single spar that is lightweight, yet strong. It contributes to the Outlander model’s benchmark powerto- weight ratio and low centre of gravity.
Aluminum skid plate // An aluminum skid plate provides extra protection in extreme cross-countryriding conditions.
More-powerful magneto // The X xc package provides a more-powerful magneto with 650 watts of power output.
Front and rear steel racks // 100-pound (45 kg) capacity in front, 200 pounds (90 kg) in back. Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.™) // Industry’s first standard anti-theft device. Electronic code in key must match code in ECU to start.
Outlander X xc-specific graphics // BRP outfits the Can-Am Outlander 800R EFI X xc ATV with a sleek black and yellow graphics scheme that looks fast even when sitting still. There is also a premium, embroidered gripper seat cover.
