RENO, NV     JULY 1, 2010  – Roger Norman will speak about the motorcycle incident that occurred at the 2010 Baja 500 on Sunday July 4th at 7pm PST on Intelligent Talk 1170AM KCBQ San Diego.  Dave Stall and Alex Plewniak host the SoCal Off Road Radio Show that is also available to listen to online across the US.

“We’re thrilled to support Rogers efforts for elevating these racing changes, and thrilled to have the public forum to help get thoughts and concerns out there,” said Alex Plewniak about having Roger Norman on the show. First time Baja competitor, Sportsman motorcycle rider Tim Nugent from Georgia, and Eric Branstrom, Norman’s co-driver during the incident, will also be joining the show.

In addition, other Trophy Truck drivers that support Normans proposed safety changes will be calling to add their opinion including BJ Baldwin, Jesse Jones, Robbie Gordon, Martin Christianson, and the Weatherman Bob Stienburger.  “We want to make it safer and more inclusive to Sportsman and amateur riders.  That is how we will be able to grow the sport,” said Norman.

This will be a very powerful exchange of information that has the potential to reshape the way desert races are executed with respect to everyones safety in mind.  Sal Fish is committed creating a safety committee whose recommendations SCORE will implement. Bob Stienburger is interested in spearheading the committee, and Christianson, who had a similar incident at last years Baja 500, is interested in hosting safety classes before each race.

Norman is petitioning to set up a structure to help protect the least knowledgeable and capable riders in the sport, and help increase the number of sportsman riders.  Norman is committed to participating in the BITD Vegas to Reno race with the recent safety changes Best In The Desert has applied.

Roger Norman and the Crystal Bay Casino team of Larry Roeseler and Eric Branstrom overcame 31 positions to finish 4th overall at the 2010 Baja 500, only :33 seconds behind 3rd with a time of 9:34:54.  The team was challenged with the usual brutal Baja terrain plus miles of dust and the incident with a motorcycle. “The accident with the Sportsman motorcycle rider in the dust has shook me to the core. I have been devastated and demoralized about off-road racing since Saturday’s race,” commented Roger Norman in an email to his fellow Trophy Truck competitors. “We have all had our close calls and I can tell you that until you run someone over in the dust of another trophy truck at over 100 mph you will not understand the devastating feeling that is created even if they come out with non life threatening injuries.”
