UTV’s Everywhere at 2010 ESPN X Games
I was able to go to the 2010 Summer ESPN X Games at the LA Coliseum to watch the Moto X Super X practice on Wednesday and competition on Thursday. What an amazing track! I was there to support two Adaptive riders, Chris Ridgway who is a left leg amputee and Sampie Erasmus who is a T4 Paraplegic. Two amazing people that have inspired me and others.
While I was there, of course, my eye picked up on all the UTV’s that they were using. Multiple different models were rented from Hertz Equipment Rental and were running around the track full of tools and people.
The Asterisk Mule was in full force on the motocross track. They use the vehicle for the team of sports medicine doctors to be available quickly to injured riders, and help them get off the track to receive additional medical attention. They are commonly at all the Supercross, X Games and National Motocross events.
But from across the stadium I could hear the deep growl of the Dragon Fire Racing UTV’s running up and down the retrieval ramp for the Big Air Competition. Dragon Fire helped skaters like Gold Medalist James Brown and Bob Burnquist get from the bottom of the ramp back to the top. They had a Can Am and Teryx all set for the task!
Maybe one of these days we will have a UTV event at the X Games. You just never know!
