Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson Leads His Team To Fourth at Motocross of Nations

Irvine, Calif. – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Dean Wilson finished with the lowest total score for his team and helped Great Britain finish just one point off the podium in fourth at Thunder Valley MX in Lakewood, Colo. Wilson’s 8-6 finish earned second overall in the MX2 class and aided Great Britain to improve on its finish of fifth place last year.

Best Finisher and MX2 Runner Up

Wilson made an impression on the world of motocross as he put his tough finish from Saturday’s qualifying behind him to end Sunday’s races in second overall in the MX2 class. His 8-6 finishes were also the best on his three-man team from his native Great Britain.

“It’s pretty awesome to be second in my class,” said Wilson. “I am really hard on myself and I wanted to win it, but I’ll take second.”

Little Bike, Big Bike

With Wilson competing in the MX2 class on his Kawasaki KX™250F, he lined up with a disadvantage against the MX1 450cc machines. He didn’t let that disadvantage stop him from moving through the field in both motos against the “big bikes” and finished eighth in the first race and sixth in the second.

“The place you see the disadvantage the most is on the start since it’s uphill,” said Wilson. “After that I just tried to ride smart and I was able to make passes and move up. The pace was really fast and I was really pushing to make up as many positions as possible.”

Cheerleader

Great Britain was in position to be on the podium as they battled it out in the final moto against Germany. The final podium spot was up for grabs and Wilson made sure he was in the thick of it cheering on his teammates.

“I had a lot of fun today, even when I wasn’t riding because we were so close at the end,” said Wilson. “I was on the edge of the track cheering my teammates on and in the end we were only one point off. It was awesome.”

Off To Scotland

Now that Wilson has helped carry his team to a fourth place finish at the biggest motocross race in the world, he is going to take some down time to re-energize for the upcoming pre-season testing.

“I’m really happy to be going back and visiting my family in Scotland,” said Wilson. “It’s always good to get some downtime in before you start back up again. It’s easy to get burnt out. I know I’ll be ready to ride again when I get back.”
