SuperLite Twitch and Brandon Ward take First Place Finishes at Speedworld Last Weekend
RENO, NV – SEPTEMBER 30, 2010: The SuperLite field had thirteen drivers taking the green flag, ranging in expertise from Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg who drove his Metal Mulisha SuperLite and Jeff “Ox” Kargola in the General Tire truck to brand new “Arrive and Drive” drivers Patrick Clark, Rally Car driver Tanner Foust and Jonathan Elfalan an editor of Road & Track Magazine.
Saturdays race put the pack of SuperLites onto the track side-by-side and revving to take the hole shot. After all thirteen battled it out for 13 laps, Brandon Ward took his first ever win! “I have been working really hard to get a win, it feels really good!” said Ward. Brandon, son to Jeff Ward who races a Pro 2 truck for Speed Technologies, has been consistent all season but couldn’t put the full package together until this weekend and he proved it when he walked away with the trophy. Chad George, who went into the round with the overall points lead, took second place, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg drove his Metal Mulisha SuperLite to third, and Jeff “Ox” Kargola took fourth.
On Sunday, RJ Anderson, an Arrive and Drive participant, led the first half of the race until Twitch and Colton Greaves, Jonny Greaves son, were able to make the pass. Twitch took the podium win, Colton Greaves took second, and RJ Anderson, with winning UTV racing experience, took third in his second ever SuperLite start.
Fourth place went to Patrick Clark from Las Vegas who had never raced before, other than go-karts at the local indoor track. Clark signed up for the Arrive and Drive program, and with two days of training at the SuperLite facility, he finished 4th in his first ever race weekend. The program to participate in these races is easy for anyone interested.
The battle of the weekend was on Sunday during the last lap when Chad George, who was in the lead, cut down into a corner and unintentionally bumped Brandon Ward. George immediately lost the lead, and received a black flag for misconduct. The black flag was under review, and after further review the commission overturned the decision. George will keep his fifth place finish which allows him to maintain the lead in the season points.
Following Sunday nights race, host of SuperLite Live Chuck Dempsey and driver Chad George went to Speed Freaks studio to be guest on the Sunday night talk show. Kenny Sargent, Crash Gladys and Slatt Mann Caruthers harassed George about his black flag while getting all the information about the SuperLite Arrive and Drive program. “Let me see if I have this straight, all I have to do is pay the money, bring a helmet and a fire suit and you provide the mechanic, truck and everything else,” asked Sargent. “Yes, we also have full hospitality and a semi to enjoy. And when you leave with your helmet and race suit, we are loading up the battered cars to take them back to the shop and get them ready for the next race,” explained Chuck Dempsey.
Complete replays of SuperLite racing and the behind-the-scenes action can be seen on SuperLite Live. Hosted by Chuck Dempsey and co-hosted by Jeff “SurfRat” Arganda, they interviewed SuperLite drivers and had an excellent interview with Forest Lucas, the owner of Lucas Oil.
