AMA congratulates Charlie Mullins for 2010 AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship

The AMA congratulates Charlie Mullins on his championship season in the 2010 AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series, presented by Moose Racing.

The Obermeyer/Am Pro/FMF Yamaha rider won the title despite not finishing the third round in Daytona Beach, Fla. Following that no-point performance, Mullins rolled off five straight wins, overcoming that early deficit and more. Ultimately, the Hickory, N.C., rider finished the season with six wins and 239 championship points, 25 points ahead of the second-place title finisher, FMF/KTM’s Cory Buttrick.

Although Mullins won the top award, he’s not the only champion crowned in this season. He joins 14 other class champions who earned an AMA Racing No. 1 plate in the 2010 AMA Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series, presented by Moose Racing.

“Charlie Mullins won the enduro title on a combination of talent and determination,” said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. “He never quit, and his performance against the country’s top off-road racers on a variety of terrain and in a range of conditions was impressive. The AMA congratulates him, and all the class champions of the 2010 season, on an outstanding accomplishment.”

Alan Randt, of the National Enduro Promotions Group (NEPG), which is the AMA’s promoting partner for the AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series, presented by Moose Racing, added that both Yamaha and Mullins were a welcomed addition to the series this year.

“The NEPG would like to congratulate Charlie Mullins on a great season and his first AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship,” Randt said. “This year’s series was one of the most competitive in the history of the series, with several riders and manufacturers fighting for the championship right down to the last round. We would also like to congratulate all of the class winners and competitors for all of their hard work and dedication to the series.”

Mullins said he’s proud of coming from behind to win the title.

“It was a hard-fought year and it came down to the last race but I was able to put in a good, solid ride and take the title,” said Mullins. “It feels pretty good, especially coming back from as far as I did.”

The AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series, presented by Moose Racing, dates to the founding of the AMA in 1924. The series is one of the longest-running national motorsports championships in the world and is one of the premier off-road racing series in the country, giving both amateur competitors and the country’s fastest enduro racers a showcase for their talents.
