Stefan Everts and Roger DeCoster at KTM headquarters; Everts signs for 3 more years

| October 15, 2010 | 0 Comments

Stefan Everts, who has just signed another three year contract with KTM to manage the Red Bull KTM Factory Team, and Roger DeCoster, probably the sport’s most iconic managerial figure, now charged with managing the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team’s entry into USA competition have both been to the company headquarters in Mattighofen to plan for the 2011 season and beyond.

Meeting with KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer, KTM Racing boss Pit Beirer and other company executives, the visit of undoubtedly the two most respected figures in MX sports management began to lay the groundwork for what will be another watershed year for KTM. The company went into 2010 with the intention of gaining a stronghold on the MX1 class at the world championship to match its performance in the MX2 and came away with both world titles. KTM Racing’s task is now to further secure this dominance on the track in top level competition and to lay the ground work for similar performances in competition in the USA both in the Supercross Lites and the outdoor seasons.

Everts, himself one of the most distinguished riders in the sport and 10-times world champion has enjoyed success both with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and for his input and consultation with KTM’s R& D in the development of the KTM 350 SX-F bike. A huge success in its launch year, the revolutionary new bike shunned the critics from the first time that KTM’s Tony Cairoli and MX1 world champion rode to victory on its very first track appearance in early 2010.

Roger DeCoster, Belgian born but long time resident of the USA, is also a multi world championship title holder who went on after his active racing career to be a hugely respected and successful team manager in the USA, including the management of successful MXoN teams in what is considered to be the Olympics” of MX racing. Roger DeCoster was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame America in 1994, only the only the seventh motorcyclist to have been afforded the honor. The five-time Motocross World Champion and Trans-AMA Champion was also inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.

Pit Beirer: We are naturally delighted to welcome both Stefan and Roger to Mattighofen and of course to have signed Stefan for another three years. With him and having Roger onboard for the new US teams, we can now move forward with some major plans for KTM Racing in the coming seasons. There will be many challenges, including maintaining our dominance here in Europe while establishing the team as a force in the USA, but with Roger and Stefan we have the right people. Both are hugely experienced and highly respected.
