Torchmate Racing Sends Three Cars to BITD Bilek Silver State 300 JT Taylor #4413, Jesse Haines #4499, Mike Shaffer #1066
Torchmate Racing JT Taylor will be driving #4413 and Jesse Haines will be driving #4499 at the Best in the Desert Bilek Silver State 300 race this weekend in the commonly known Ultra4 class which will be the largest class at this years Silver State event. Mike Shaffer will be running the Torchmate racing #1066 Class 1000 car. The race will start in Alamo, Nevada about 95 miles north of Las Vegas on Saturday April 30th. The Aliante Casino & Resort will host the race events and tech and inspection on Friday.
JT Taylor, Torchmate Racing Manager and Driver, will be driving the #4413 Ultra4 car with co-driver Shannon Powell. This is the second race this car has competed in, the unveiling being at the Griffin King of the Hammers in February. “We have put on over 100 miles on the new car testing and all appears to be ‘a go’ for an extremely fast and competitive race this weekend,” said Jake Povey, Torchmate Racing Crew Chief.
Jesse Haines will be racing his #4499 buggy with Chris Keiker as co-driver. Haines recently finished the 2011 King of the Hammers with minutes to spare. “We are ready to race and looking forward to getting another race under our belt in the Ultra4 Series,” said Haines.
Mike Shaffer will start 9th in Class 1000 driving #1066 at the Best in the Desert Bilek Silver State 300 race this weekend. Shaffer-Motorsports is competing with the Torchmate 10 car for the entire BITD series, so the plan is, above all, to finish. “We will be running with a bit more reserve than the “test our limits” plan we had for Mint 400,” said driver Daniel Aeberli, “but this still is a race and we will be aiming for the podium.” Shawn Twitchell added, “we will also be using this race as a preparedness test for our chase teams, we want to be at 100% for race such as the Vegas to Reno and the Baja 1000, where this will play a major role for a good finish.”
The race winds through some of the most beautiful desert Nevada has to offer. However beautiful it may be, it will provide for some hairy situations with terrain for a very challenging race. The weather will be a springy 80 degrees with wind to clear the course of dust, or reek havoc depending on the direction.

About JT Taylor: JT Taylor is the epitome of “been there, done that”. A retired First Sergeant who returned from the Iraq conflict with a Bronze Star, Taylor uses the skills that he honed as a soldier to manage the Torchmate Racing team. His strategic and mechanical capabilities have served him not just with Torchmate racing, but also in previous Crew Chief positions with Speed Technologies, Shannon Campbell and Dirt Sports race teams. He was the Crew Chief for Speed Technologies 2008 Class 1 Baja 1000 win, 2009 Baja 500 Torchmate team, and co-drove and was crew for the 2009 Baja 1000 and 2010 NORRA 1000, and pits for Speed Technologies SuperLite #16 in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. About Jesse Haines: Over the past decade Jesse Haines has established himself as one of the top fabricators in the off road industry while simultaneously cementing his legacy as one of the winningest drivers in rockcrawling history.
