Ross Kenseth Wins ASA Season Opener with Roush Yates Power

| May 12, 2011

Ross Kenseth, son of Ford NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, is following in his dads footsteps in more ways than one. At the age of 17, Ross recently won the season opener for the American Speed Association at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway driving the same technology and performance his dad utilizes every week in NASCAR’s premier series.

This year Ross Kenseth is running an engine that was refreshed with proven and upgraded parts by Roush Yates Engines’ Performance Engine Group.  Roush Yates, headquartered in Mooresville, NC, took Ross’s engine from last season and executed their “Performance Upgrade,” applying many of the same technologies and meticulous processes used each week when building winning engines for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The Kenseth family knew they needed to get Ross’s engine refreshed before the season began, and Matt chose Roush Yates’ “Performance Upgrade” option because he wanted to give his son the best chance of winning this year. The decision appears to have paid off, and Ross couldn’t be happier about getting his first ASA win of the season at the 3rd Annual “Joe Shear Classic” last week.

“I chose to get a Performance Upgrade on Ross’s engine this year instead of buying him a new engine because we had already had some success with our current engine,” said Matt Kenseth, NASCAR’s 2003 Sprint Cup Champion. “When I looked into getting it refreshed, I was glad to hear Roush Yates could do the work for an affordable price.”

Ross has been racing in the ASA series since he was 15. His goals for the this season include challenging notable racers such as Steve Carlson and Chris Wimmer, winning more than one race, and finishing higher in the points. With one win already under his belt, Ross believes all of his goals are possible with his newly refreshed engine.

“It feels awesome to get a win in the ASA,” said Ross Kenseth. “The tour is huge and there’s a lot of talent out there. I could definitely feel a difference between last year’s engine and this year with the changes and improvements Roush Yates offers.  Last year the engine had great initial power but seemed to die off. This engine is much smoother on the gas and runs cooler. We can run more tape now. It’s just better all the way around.”

Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates Engines, implemented the “Performance Upgrade” service option last year in an effort to help racers in virtually any racing series who may not be able to afford a new engine.  As the exclusive provider of Ford engines in NASCAR’s top three series, people don’t always realize that the knowledgeable engineers at Roush Yates Engines are capable of improving any size or make of engine, and can implement much the same technology used in the formidable and win-proven FR9 engines – which were developed exclusively at Roush Yates.

Matt Kenseth thinks a “Performance Upgrade” is a no-brainer for anyone looking to save money while increasing performance and reliability in their engine.

“When you think of the name Doug Yates, you automatically think horsepower. You know you’re going to get the best power. As I continue to help Ross further his career in racing, it’s really good to know he will have much of the same technology, performance, and reliability that I get every week in the Sprint Cup Series.”
