Roush Yates Dominates All-Star Race, Stenhouse Jr. Wins First Nationwide Race at Iowa
Ford Fans around the country have something to celebrate this week as Roush Yates powered engines dominated on the biggest stage in racing, as well as in the dirt. Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Chuck Hebing, and Chris Stott each used Ford horsepower to surpass the competition and bring home wins in four different racing series.
David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing, started off All-Star weekend by qualifying on the pole for the Sprint Showdown. Ragan brought the field to the green flag and led both 20-lap segments to win his way into the Sprint All-Star race. Roush Yates Engines drivers Marcos Ambrose and AJ Allmendinger ran a great race and finished in a close third and fourth place respectively.
Deemed one of the most exciting nights in racing, the Sprint All-Star race consisted of four segments, or “sprint races”, that were each won by a Roush Yates powered driver. Greg Biffle led at the end of the first 50-lap segment in his 3M Ford Fusion, but Carl Edwards stole the show leading at the end of every other segment and winning the one million dollar purse.
Saturday night’s race marked the fourth time in NASCAR history that Ford drivers swept both the Sprint Showdown and All-Star race. Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush was thrilled to see one of his cars in Victory Lane.
“It’s a testament to the hard work everybody has been doing. There’s a lot of discussion about hard work in this business, but the Roush Fenway guys have really suited up for it in the winter, and the manufacturer part is working well,” said Roush. “The unsung hero is Doug Yates and the engine tonight. I watched the way that engine handled down the straightaway and it was really, really good. It’s a long time since we’ve seen our engines run as good as they did tonight. I’m glad to have Ford here with us tonight.”
Roush Yates’ weekend just kept getting better as Ricky Stenhouse Jr. earned his first ever Nationwide Series win at Iowa Speedway on Sunday. Stenhouse was a factor all race long and battled teammate Carl Edwards for the lead in the closing laps, successfully holding him off to get the victory.
“We had a shot at a few races earlier this year, but they would get away from us at the end,” said Stenhouse Jr. “Today we stayed strong all day long. In other races we have started fast but didn’t finish. It was good to get that done here.”
Roush Yates’ Ford motors weren’t just strong on asphalt this weekend. Chuck Hebing handled the high banks of Woodhull Racway perfectly on Saturday night to win the Patriot Sprint Tour race in his Roush Yates Sprint 360. Chris Scott also found success on Saturday at KC Raceway in Alma, Ohio in his dirt modified car. This was Scott’s first race with his new 428 Dirt Modified engine built by Roush Yates.
