Roush Yates Powers Sprint, Drag, and Dirt Racing Wins

| May 9, 2011

Roush Yates experienced a weekend full of wins with their grassroots racing engines built and serviced at Roush Yates’ Performance Engine Group division. Johnny Bridges, Jeff Swindell and Mitch Runge brought home Sprint Car victories, Brian Williams won his first ever Big Dog trophy at Piedmont Dragway, and Rick Eckert earned his first win of the season in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

North Carolina’s own Johnny Bridges stole the show at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA on Saturday night.  Bridges took the lead early in the USCS sanctioned event and held off the field to earn his first victory since running the Roush Yates Sprint 360 engine he won at IMIS last November in a Roush Yates-sponsored national raffle. The winner of the powerful 360 engine was drawn at the International Motorsports Industry Show in Indianapolis, with all proceeds going to a local North Carolina charity. The engine raffle raised more than $25,000 while providing Bridges with the power he needed to dominate the field this weekend.

In West Memphis, AR, Jeff Swindell won a weekly showdown with his Roush Yates Sprint 360 engine after the Lucas Oil ASCS Rock N’ Roll 50 was cancelled due to flooding. Across the country at Husets Speedway in South Dakota, Mitch Runge earned his first victory on the season with his Roush Yates Sprint 360 at the Championship Sprint Car feature.

“This is a great weekend for the Roush Yates Sprint Car program,” said Jeremy Anderson, Sprint Car Program Manager for Roush Yates Engines. “I’m proud of how our engines are performing across the board and I look forward to seeing continued power and performance throughout the ASCS and USCS 2011 season.”

Brian Williams took home his first Big Dog trophy in Greensboro, NC after winning at Piedmont Dragway in his Chevy Corvette with an engine Roush Yates recently completed a “Performance Upgrade” on. The machine work and testing Williams received on his engine paid off, and he was more than thrilled to get his first Big Dog victory.

Rick Eckert put on a dominating performance in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, winning Saturday evening’s Pine Tree 50 at Swainsboro Raceway. This is Eckert’s first win of 2011 in the series and he now leads the WoO LMS points series over two-time defending champion Josh Richards.
