JT Taylor Beats Standing Record by 10 Seconds at CHCA Temple Canyon Hill Climb
After a win in the NORRA 4a Class with Marty Fiolka, Doug Nagy, and Jim and Lisa Greenway, JT Taylor headed north to Colorado to compete and win the CHCA Temple Canyon Hill Climb. JT Taylor finished first in the Ultra4 Class and beat his pre-existing record by 10 seconds in the blue Torchmate / Tube Shark Buggy. “We beat the record by 10 seconds because the conditions were perfect, the course was perfect and it truly couldn’t have been better,” said JT Taylor after a very successful weekend.
Not pre-committed due to possible constraints getting back from NORRA, JT Taylor drove hard to get back to Colorado to prep the Torchmate / Tube Shark buggy for hill climb. Just hours later he showed up at Canon City for Tech where he pitted with Torchmate Teammates Brad and Roger Lovell. Taylor was the fastest Ultra4 qualifier on Saturday.
Race day Sunday was delayed a bit due to rain the previous night. They packed down the road and prepared to run. “Being I was the fastest qualifier, I picked if I wanted to go first or last, and I decided to go last,” said JT Taylor. His decision paid off as the course had just that much more time to find the perfect compound, and JT knew the time to beat. JT Taylor finished the 3.59 mile course in 3 minutes, 24 seconds.

About JT Taylor: JT Taylor is the epitome of “been there, done that”. A retired First Sergeant who returned from the Iraq conflict with a Bronze Star, Taylor uses the skills that he honed as a soldier to manage the Torchmate Racing team. His strategic and mechanical capabilities have served him not just with Torchmate racing, but also in previous Crew Chief positions with Speed Technologies, Shannon Campbell and Dirt Sports race teams. He was the Crew Chief for Speed Technologies 2008 Class 1 Baja 1000 win, 2009 Baja 500 Torchmate team, and co-drove and was crew for the 2009 Baja 1000 and 2010 NORRA 1000, and pits for Speed Technologies SuperLite #16 in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. It would be foolish to think that Taylor is only handy with a wrench though, he is just as comfortable behind the wheel. Taylor consistently held a top ten position in XORRA for five years and is the two year reigning champion of the XORRA Germany Series. He is the Colorado Hill Climb Association Ultra4 Champion and made history as the first Ultra4 competitor to run Pikes Peak, where he won the Exhibition class. Taylor is one of the original thirteen competitors of King of the Hammers who has raced every year, including 2010 with Roger Norman on his team.
