Roush Yates Engines Earn Memorial Day Wins

| June 1, 2011

Roush Yates Engines continued its ever-growing trend of  providing customers with winning, reliable engines in the NASCAR Nationwide, GT3, Sprint 360, and Dirt Late Model Series over Memorial Day Weekend.

Roush Fenway driver Matt Kenseth may not have ever raced the new Nationwide Series Ford Mustang before this weekend, but his familiarity with the Roush Yates FR9 engine gave him a winning advantage in Saturday’s Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kenseth was filling in for Trevor Bayne in the No. 16 Fastenal Ford Mustang and passed teammate Carl Edwards with two laps to go to give Roush Yates its fifth Nationwide victory this season.

“I’m happy that Trevor is going to be back next week.  It was fun to fill in.  It was a great day for Fastenal having all three cars here and it was an honor to drive this Mustang,” said Kenseth. “This is the first Nationwide COT race I’ve run.  I haven’t run in over a year, so it was nice to get in this car and come out here and have some fun on Saturday.”

Internationally, Roush Yates’ engines ran well in the sportscar series as well this weekend. Craft Eurasia won with Roush Yates power in the GT3 series in Sepang, Malaysia while the Roush Yates powered Ford teams of Michael Shank Racing and Starworks Motorsports finished second and third respectively in the Memorial Day Classic at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park.

On the dirt side of things Roush Yates engines proved powerful once again with two wins in the Sprint 360 series and one victory in the Dirt Late Model series. Randy Martin, the winningest driver in ASCS history, received his first ever Warrior win at Double X Speedway on Sunday night. Mitch Runge found victory lane at I-90 Speedway in the “Loren Bartad Memorial Race”. Martin and Runge both drive Roush Yates powered Sprint 360 engines built in Mooresville, NC.

Darell Padgett, driver of the No. 46 Billy Wells owned dirt late model, continued his winning streak with another victory at Ocala Speedway in Ocala, FL on Saturday. Padgett is ranked second in the 2011 points and will be back on track next Saturday, June 4th in the Annual Powell Memorial Late Model “$10,000 to Win.”
