Krispy Kreme and Yates (racing) Family Reunite
Roush Yates Performance Products announced today that it will now feature Winston-Salem-headquartered Krispy Kreme doughnuts in (Roush Yates’) new 50,000 square foot retail store located here. The store last weekend celebrated its official grand opening and open house that featured hundreds of fans, more than 100 classic cars on display, and participation by Krispy Kreme. The announcement comes 19 years after Krispy Kreme and Doug Yates first joined forces – on the race track.
In 1992, the Krispy Kreme logo adorned the side panel of the ominous black No. 28 Texaco Havoline Thunderbird driven by Robert Yates Racing star Davey Allison. As an associate sponsor, Krispy Kreme rode with Allison to numerous victories – including the season opening Daytona 500 – and near atop the points chart through the final race of the season in Atlanta. Allison’s championship bid fell short after getting caught up in a late race accident in the finale.
“I am really thrilled and honored to have Krispy Kreme available in our newly expanded retail store,” said Roush Yates CEO Doug Yates. “You might even call it something very personal to me.”
“It should be meaningful to any fan that pulled for the No. 28 back in the day,” Yates added. “I will always remember Krispy Kreme as being an integral part of that incredible ’92 season. My best memories are not just of Krispy Kreme being really involved, but that vision of all those rolling carts, stacked with hot fresh doughnuts, being wheeled into the Cup garage each morning for everyone – every team – to enjoy. No one will argue that they were probably the most popular sponsor in the Cup garage. We want grass roots racers to feel this support in our new store.”
Roush Yates Performance Products retail store, located at 122 Knob Hill Road, will feature a Krispy Kreme dispenser that will be stocked with fresh product each morning – Monday through Saturday.
Roush Yates Vice President of Operations Todd English commented: “The idea with our expanded retail store was to make it a completely inviting atmosphere to not only drop in and purchase your race part, but to relax, spend some time speaking with our experts on how Roush Yates can enhance your on-track performance, grab a cup of coffee and of course – a fresh Krispy Kreme doughnut.”
