Roush Yates Engines Earn Multiple Wins over Holiday Weekend

| July 6, 2011

Scott Bloomquist and David Ragan let freedom ring over the holiday weekend with spectacular wins in front of enthusiastic crowds. Bloomquist captured two more victories in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in Ohio this weekend and David Ragan earned his first ever Sprint Cup victory at Daytona.

Scott Bloomquist added to his successful season by winning the Independence 50 at Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday night and the Budweiser 50 at Muskingum County Speedway on Sunday. Dominating all 50 laps in Portmouth and fighting off series points leader Jimmy Owens in Zanesville, Bloomquist captured his seventh and eighth wins of the season in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with his Roush Yatespowered Ford.

“The car and engine were really great again tonight, it’s great to come to tracks like this that are raceable and you can pass on,” said the two-time series champion. “There was plenty of passing all night long here, the track was smooth and we could race anywhere on it.”

Bloomquist has 33 wins in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, making him the winningest driver of all time in the series.

While Bloomquist swept in Ohio, David Ragan led Roush Yates Engines’ sweep in a 1-2 finish at Daytona in Saturday’s Coke Zero 400. Ragan became the third first-time winner in 2011 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and the second with Roush Yates power.

Ragan received a push from Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth to win the race when a massive wreck on the final lap brought out the yellow flag.

“This is awesome. There’s not a better place to do it than Daytona,” said an ecstatic Ragan in Victory Lane. “Matt (Kenseth) pushed me to the finish line. The Roush Yateshorsepower was great all night long. Doug Yates back at the house, thank for all your help. There’s not a better night to win. This is awesome!”

Ragan gives Roush Yates Engines their fifth win this season in the Sprint Cup Series, making Ford the leading manufacturer in wins in 2011. With the Chase for the Championship just around the corner, Doug Yates believes a Ford champion is in sight.

“I’m proud of David Ragan and the entire No. 6 team,” said Yates. “This has been coming for a long time and it’s great to see him in Victory Lane. As an engine builder, it’s awesome to see our FR9 sweep both Daytonas. To have two first-time winners at this track says a lot about our engines as well as the caliber of teams we are working with. I believe if we continue with this kind of performance you will see a Ford champion in 2011.”
