Mike Vanden Heuvel Gains Confidence in Charlotte
Mike Vanden Heuvel and the No. 77 Maxxis Tires sponsored Chevrolet showed up in Charlotte ready to make history. For the first time in history, the TRAXXAS TORC Series invades NASCAR’s backyard.
The field of Pro 2WD trucks line up for the start of Friday night’s racing action with Mike sitting in the 8th position. The green flag drops and the fender to fender racing action is under way. After a few quick moves, Mikey finds himself battling for 4th by the second lap. This battle continued until contact with another truck sent Mikey back to 6th. Shortly after the midrace restart, Mikey was forced to pull the truck off the track. Later, the team found a failed fuel pickup that caused the problem.
Looking to improve on Friday night’s finish, Mikey lined up 7th for Saturday’s race. After avoiding an early race collision, Mikey started gaining ground and racing with the 5th and 6th place trucks. As the mid race caution flew, the No. 77 Maxxis Tires sponsored Chevrolet hit the hot pits with engine trouble. Mikey nursed the under powered truck through the second half of the race and salvaged a 6th place finish. After the race, the team found heavy roost collapsed one of the truck’s protective panels and took out two spark plug wires.
Watch for Mikey and the Flying Dutchman Team to rebound from Charlotte and gain ground on the leaders in Bark River on August 13th and 14th.
Come out to the track and watch this young gun continue to make an impact on the sport of Short Course Off Road Racing. If you can’t be there in person, visit www.ustream.com to catch all the action LIVE online.
Mike Vanden Heuvel Quote:
