Myers Secures Modified Championship with Roush Yates Power
Roush Yates-powered engines are running for championships all over the country this season and Burt Myers captured the first one on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium. Other winners this weekend include Chad McCumbee in the ARCA Series, Josh Richards in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Marcos Ambrose in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Scott Bloomquist in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series, and Zack Monette in the SCCA series.
In NASCAR’s premier division, Roush Fenway’s Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth delivered an all-Roush Yates FR9 front row start with Biffle on the pole for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup Series race.
Myers walked into Winston-Salem’s legendary Bowman Gray Stadium Saturday night 73 points ahead in the series championship. Powered by Roush Yates, Myers played it safe on the slick track and brought home a 12th place finish, securing his fifth Bowman Gray Modified Series Championship.
“I would like to thank all of the Roush Yates’ employees for their hard work this season,” said Myers. “They stopped at nothing to make sure we always had the best motor and I’m proud to share championship number five with them.”
Chad McCumbee overcame all odds on Sunday to post his first win in the ARCA series since 2007. McCumbee drives the No. 1 ModSpace Ford powered by Roush Yates for Andy Belmont Racing. He excelled on the first of two dirt tracks on the series schedule and led the final 51 of 107 laps at the Illinois State Fairgrounds to win the Allen Crowe 100 in Springfield, IL.
“To win this race is huge, and to do it the way I did, this car was on a rail,” said McCumbee. “I was taking it easy there to start with and when the opportunity came to lead, I took it, and I kept seeing them getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror. The ModSpace Ford was awesome today.”
Josh Richards continued to dominate in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, capturing his third consecutive win with his Roush Yates 410 Ford Dirt Late Model engine on Friday night. Richards took the checkered flag first in the Keyer Manufacturing 50 at Winston Speedway in Rothbury, MI after starting fifth. This was Richards’ 35th win in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the two-time defending champion remains second in the 2011 series points.
Marcos Ambrose is having the week of a life-time. The No. 9 Stanley Ford Fusion driver for Richard Petty Motorsports earned his first ever Sprint Cup Series win a week ago at Watkins Glen and continued his winning streak at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada on Saturday in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
“Every year we have come here we feel we have the best car,” said Ambrose. “We have finished second twice and other two times we made mistakes or were taken out of races we should have won. It sure is nice to finally get one in the win column.”
This was Ambrose’s fourth career win in the Nationwide series and fellow Roush Yates FR9 driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. remains the points leader.
Scott Bloomquist found himself back in Victory Lane this weekend at the 19th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100. The race was postponed until Sunday due to heavy rain in Batesville, AR. Bloomquist beat Jimmy Owens at Batesville Motor Speedway to post his tenth win of the 2011 Lucas Oil Late Model Series season and remains second in the series points.
Zack and Bob Monette are well known in the SCCA world and proved once again they come to win. The Monette Racing Group posted their ninth win of the season with Roush Yates power during a double header at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend. The Monette family races their ex Trans Am Series Mustangs in the V8 GT-1 class.
