Team Monster Energy/Campbell Racing Rolls Into Moab
The Monster Energy Team rolls into Moab, UT for EJS, some trail wheeling and a little racing. There are only a few places left that you can go trail wheeling with family and friends and then a few days later you are racing on those very same trails. Area BFE is one of those places and would be hosting the Dirt Riot Mountain Series event.
For the Monster Energy/Campbell Racing Team, Wayland Campbell would be piloting the #5 – 2 seat KOH car and co-driving is Bailey Campbell. Bailey has been wanting to get in a car for sometime and finally Shannon said OK! Qualifying in the middle of the field in 14th. Wayland, according to his sister needs to pick up the pace for Saturdays race! As the brother/sister team took the green flag it was no doubt they were moving up through the field. As navigator Bailey kept Wayland on course and the pit crew informed of everything that was happening. Half way through the first stage Bailey reported a flat tire which led to some brake problems. With 50 minutes remaining they were able to get it to the pits, make the repairs and finish the last section of the first stage. Preparing to go back out for the second stage Wayland and Bailey waited for their turn to make some dust. Having some more brake problems Wayland would have to rely on his cutting brakes. Bailey called on the radio and said, “we almost rolled and now we have no brakes”. Shannon told them to take their time and if they felt uncomfortable to bring it in and Bailey told him, “we are finishing this!”. With determination and teamwork the Campbell kids finished overall in 14th place.
Qualifying in 7th position for Saturdays race, Nick Campbell driving the #8 Monster Energy/Dynomax single seat KOH car knew this was the perfect car for this course. Taking the green flag Nick moved to the front with ease knowing that in the second stage he would have to push the car a little harder. Being equipped with tire balls, would give Nick the advantage of not having to stop for a tire change. Taking the lead on the first lap and trying to put distance between him and 2nd place Nick came around on the last quarter mile stretch to the finishline, attempting to climb the final obstacle he lost a power steering hose and sadly was not able to complete the course but even with a DNF on the last stage the #8 of Nick Campbell would still finish 13th.
