Bigelow Motorsports Doug Bigelow Qualifies For 6th Consecutive King Of The Hammers Race

| July 19, 2012

Bigelow Motorsports BMM KOH01(July 15 2012- Attica, IN) Bigelow Motorsports owner and driver Doug Bigelow, qualified for the teams 6th consecutive running of the now famed King of the Hammers desert race in Johnson Valley, CA, with a top 10 finish at the Attica, IN Badlands Offroad Park Qualifier.

Battling a tough group of seasoned ULTRA 4 competitors from around the country Bigelow fought hard in the Yukon Gear And Axle moonbuggy through adversity to finish in 9th place.

“We had issues with the front output on the transfer case on lap two, which I believe has a few stripped teeth now. I launched pretty hard up one of the climbs during the race and had to run the remaining 3 laps in two wheel drive. On the last lap in the last rock section I had the throttle cable snap. Fortunately, I had a piece of wire with a female end connector and was able to rig up a hand throttle to finish the race. Hardest part was trying to winch up the last climb in two wheel drive, steer at the same time, and use the winch controller. I just needed one more hand at that point and used my knee to steer while verticle,” recapped Bigelow.

Doug Bigelow has competed in every single King of the Hammers main race since 2008. As one of the first East Coast drivers to make the trip to compete in Johnson Valley, CA, Bigelow has consistantly been at the forefront of the ULTRA 4 Class. Competing throughout the country Bigelow Motorsports has been competing in Rocksports events since 2003.

Recently, Doug Bigelow has been at the forefront of land use issues to save the Johnson Valley, CA OHV area. Affectionately known as “the Hammers”, Bigelow was part of a national land use OHV lobby day that got MD-based congressional represenative Roscoe Bartlett to introduce and pass amendment 243 to the HR 4310 bill requiring more in depth scrutiny of the acquisition of the OHV land by the military.

Bigelow Motorsport’s next event will be the August 18 Rausch Creek Endurance finals in Pine Grove, PA.
