Hooligan Rock Crew Team Up With Ruffstuff Specialties For Assault On Glen Helen Grand Prix And Nor-Cal Rock Racing

| July 18, 2012

Hooligan_Rock_Crew_cinco-de-baja_BMM01(Sacramento, CA – 16th July 2012) Ultra 4 team the Hooligan Rock Crew are pleased to announce a new sponsor coming on board in the form of Ruffstuff Specialties. Ruffstuff Specialties is the number one supplier of custom and off-the-shelf off-road fabrication parts in the USA, and make everything from brake line brackets through to axle housings.

In the past few months Chris Garrison and co-driver Darin Floyd have attended a couple of races with mixed results. May saw the team travel to Albuquerque NM for the Ultra 4 Cinco De Baja desert race. Tech inspection was great with plenty of teams and spectators supporting the #4494 car with their new wrap supporting Rock’N For The Kids and the Children Miracles Network by buying t-shirts and making donations. Raceday started well from a 9th place starting position with the crew setting a competitive race pace for the first lap and a half. Then disaster struck with a lost alternator. Luckily they guys were able to limp to the remote pit, and then wait while the stock class team of The Degenerates brought a replacement alternator out from main pit.

With the replacement installed Chris and Darin had a lot of time to make up, with 3 laps left to run and the course closure time rapidly approaching. Race pace was again very promising but on the last lap disaster struck again, with Chris, pushing hard to finish, started suffering from dehydration. The team decided a finish was still possible, so co-driver Darin Floyd took the wheel and finished the race on his own while Chris recovered in main pit.

The next race the team decided to tackle was the first round of the NorCal Rock Racing Series, on the 2nd of June held at Prairie City SVRA near Rancho Cordova CA. This was quite a last minute decision, which is why the guys found themselves fixing a broken front axle until late into the night the day before! The wrenching was worth it though, with a third and a first in the heat races. Unfortunately in the final #4494 punctured a rear tire which ran flat. Despite managing to stay in the top three with a disintegrating tire for 7 laps, the tire let go with only 1 lap left.

Following the Nor Cal race, the front axle housing was found to be further out of shape. However, the new agreement with Ruffstuff meant that this has now been replaced with a new Ruffstuff 9” housing. Ruffstuff have also supplied a set of their new HID lights.

“We found the weak spot in our last front axle housing in New Mexico, but our new off the shelf Ruffstuff 9” housing eliminates the weak point and adds additional strength throughout,” said Chris, “we’re also really excited to be running the new Ruffstuff HID’s as our next race will be going into the night.” You can learn more about the Ruff Stuff 9” housing and their new HID lights at www.ruffstuffspecialties.com.

Hooligan_Rock_Crew_cinco-de-baja_BMM02Next up is this weekend’s second round of the Ultra 4 Racing Western Series, the Glen Helen Grand Prix. The race is a three-hour event over and around the famous Glen Helen MX and short-course tracks, and the surrounding hills, and runs way into the evening. More info at www.Ultra4Racing.com.

The Hooligan’s will still be supporting Rock’N For The Kids and the Children’s Miracle Network, with t-shirts available for sale and also with the buggy wrap designed by Mike Foster. Mike Foster’s young son Rylan has had health issues his entire life, so he developed Rock’N For The Kids as a way of bringing attention and raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network. Mike raced his Ultra 4 buggy in a number of races last year with a wrap promoting the two causes. However, due to ongoing medical issues with his son Mike put a call out to fellow Ultra 4 racers to help in his stead.

The Children’s Miracle Network is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America, and since 1983 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $4.4 billion in donations.
