Continued Momentum In Michigan For Shawn Morris
(Bark River, MI) Surrounded by the lush green forest of northern Michigan, the Flying Dutchman Off Road team rolled into the Bark River International Off Road Raceway with a full head of momentum. Coming off a 3rd place podium at the Route 66 Speedway, the team took the opportunity to show off the race truck and the TORC Series with a display at a local Chevy dealership before the weekend started.
“It’s great to get out and explore the towns we race in, meet the local people and show them what they can see at the race track.” stated Morris. “And being the only Chevy in the Pro Light class allows us to really showcase.”
As race festivities began for the weekend the team had an afternoon full of practice and qualifying. The crew made monitor adjustments to suspension and gearing. When Morris went out to qualify track conditions were perfect and he set down the sixth fastest time putting him on the pole of Saturday’s race.
Starting on the pole, Morris raced Johnson into the first corner pulling the whole shot, but Johnson was too dominating and pulled out to the early lead. As Morris battled with upcoming traffic, unfortunate contact caused him to spin and fall back to last place just before the competition caution. Keeping his cool, Morris focused on the second half of the race and picked off his competition one truck at a time. With one lap to go, Morris kept off the pursuits of Greaves to capture his second podium of the season.
“Two podiums in a row just proves we are here to run at the top,” explained Morris. “My sponsors MAXXIS and AMSOIL do so much for our team and my guys work hard all week long between races. Its great to get back to back podiums for everyone.”
Sunday Morris would start from the third position and just as in Saturday’s race, was able to stay up with the front pack of trucks. The entire first half of the race, Morris kept the current points leader, Caddell in his roost, maintaining 2nd place. Two laps after the competition caution, running in 3rd place, Morris landed hard off a jump, damaging the truck. He made his way to the hot pits but due to the extensive damage and lack of brakes, he had to call it a day.
With the strong finish Saturday, Morris gained valuable points and again moved up helping his year end standings.
Up next for the team, is The Big House at Crandon International Off Road Raceway on Labor Day weekend.
