PAC Racing Spring Sponsored Mike Colville #4418 Wins Attica Indiana Ultra 4 Series Race
(8/1/2012 – Fenton, MI) The PAC Racing Springs Ultra4 Off-road racing team streak continues. A WIN at the Badlands Ultra4 event, on top of the Ultra4 Eastern Regional Series Points and the TREC Series for 2012!
The team has been hitting the course hard mid season. Coming off of a 7th place finish at Rausch Creek in PA (which qualified us for the 2013 Ultra4 King of the Hammers), we headed to Crandon WI in June for an Ultra4 exhibition event – trying our cars (and skills) at off road short course racing. We took 7th on day 1, and on day 2 during a passing attempt for 3rd position the car was sent on a high speed barrel roll. Despite this we have found an appetite for this racing and plan on coming back if there is an opportunity. The most fun racing to date!
We took a few weeks to repair the car, and added some great new products from PAC….We started with the game changing PAC Racing Spring’s line of Bypass Shocks – the most compact shock package in the market. It took us a whole seasons worth of work and many valve changes to get the car to where it was before this change – we knew that changing shocks was a reset to the ride & handling of the car. We didn’t know what to expect. Out of the box, the valving was close enough that within 2 hours of testing, we had the car BETTER than it was before! The adjustability of the shocks is predictable and will get us even faster in the coming months.
Next was a PAC Racing Spring’s 35 spline sway bar – what an amazing tuning parameter for this type of vehicle! The cornering ability of the car, and the linearity in handling that comes with it is amazing.
With a host of new equipment on the car – we qualified 5th at the biggest east coast Ultra 4 Event of the season. The Badlands Ultra4 UMC Event in late July…. 23 drivers from all over the country were there to attack the dunes, trails, and rocks this place has to offer – the closest thing to out west racing the east has to offer. Speeds of 80 mph in heavy chop are common place here.
Off the starting line, we took the hole shot (thank you Trick Flow!) and never looked back. About 20 miles into the race – we had found ourselves in the lead, passing the top 2 teams in the rocks – a testament to the fact that a PAC Racing Spring’s 35 spline sway bar is not out of place in a rock crawling vehicle. With 1.5 laps remaining (~15 miles), the 2nd place team caught up to us – once we saw them on our tail, we decided to go for broke – and it paid off. We put 6 minutes on 2nd place by the time we crossed the finish line with this seasons 3rd win. This takes us to the top of the series points for the Ultra4 Eastern Region. All 3 cars on the podium were equipped with PAC Racing Springs.
Another special note and thanks goes out to Wilwood Engineering– they have signed on with our team as of recently and look forward to the ability to late brake the corners at Vegas To Reno – Americas longest desert race on August 16th!
