Poison Spyder Racing Wins Ultra4 Pro Series Modified Class Championship At Vegas To Reno

| August 26, 2012

PSRV2R(August 21, 2012 • BANNING, CA) — Poison Spyder Racing won the Ultra4 “Modified” class at the Best In the Desert Vegas To Reno race held this past weekend. With the win, the Poison Spyder Racing team clinched the Ultra4 Pro Series Modified Class championship, which also includes the King Of the Hammers Everyman Challenge this past February (in which the team also won their class) and the American Rock Sports Challenge, coming up in September.

A series of steering system breaks slowed the team down, but the professionalism of the driving and pit crews persevered to get the car to the finish line after more than 17 hours of blazing heat, torrential rains, pitch dark night and punishing terrain. Driver Larry McRae drove from the start line and the first leg of the race with his daughter Cortney McRae performing co-driving duties. Driver Shad Kennedy and co-driver Chris Graves took over for the second half of the race and the finish.

“We had some challenges out there but the whole team pulled together to see us through to the finish,” said McRae. “This win wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our sponsors,” Kennedy added, “this was our first chance to really test the Rigid Industries LED lighting, and they turned pitch black desert into daytime all night long.” The crew was also impressed by the sturdiness of their BFGoodrich tires. “Due to class rules, these are DOT-approved, street-legal BFG Krawler tires—the same ones anybody can go out and buy for their Jeep,” McRae said, “and we went the entire 534 miles of brutal, rocky, desert terrain at racing speeds without a single flat or tire failure!” The team also acknowledged the contributions of sponsors MagnaFlow Exhaust, Fox Racing Shocks, and many more.

In addition to the Ultra4 Pro Series Modified Class championship, the Poison Spyder Racing team is also the current points leader in Ultra4’s Western Regional Series for the Modified Class, with a first place finish at Cinco De Baja in New Mexico, and a third place finish at the Glen Helen Grand Prix.
