SAN DIEGO—Both from desert racing families and both from SoCal, third-generation racer Harley Letner and second-generation racer Andrew Myers, will be the featured guests Tuesday at 7 p.m. Pacific Time on Roger Norman’s Dirt Live weekly internet broadcast. Airing on www.score-international.com, the show is broadcast from the SCORE International tech shop in San Diego.
Roger Norman’s Dirt Live one-hour show is broadcast live weekly and the show is anchored around Norman’s two desert racing series, the SCORE Desert Series and the High Desert Racing Association as well as the new bonus points championship purse program he has developed called the World Championship of Desert Racing. Broadcast studios are located at the SCORE tech shop in San Diego. All live events this will be the ninth Dirt Live show to air.
The season opener of the 2013 SCORE Desert Series will be held this week in Mexico’s picturesque fishing village of San Felipe, located 120 miles south of the U.S. border on the East side of the Baja California peninsula along the azure waters of the tranquil Sea of Cortez. The race will herald the new chapter in SCORE history, starting the tenure of Roger Norman as the owner of the world’s foremost desert racing organization. It also marks the beginning of the 40th anniversary season of SCORE desert racing.
And Dirt Live SCORE race week coverage will cover four days of activities in San Felipe starting with Thursday’s Monster Tecate Welcome party and ending with the post-race SCORE awards celebration on Sunday at the plaza on the Malecon. With all coverage live or same-day action, the primary broadcast team will include not only Norman, but also anchor George Antill along with legendary former racer Ivan Stewart, action sports announcer Dave Arnold and X Games motorcycle racer Sara Price.
Letner, whose grandfather Danny Letner was one of the original SCORE Trophy Truck racers when the class debuted in 1994, is a strong competitor in the unlimited Class 1 and Myers, who has also race for parts of eight seasons in the NASCAR West stock car series, has won both of his Class 10 races this year with teammate Ross Savage.
With entries accepted up to race morning, nearly 250 entries are expected to enter the race. Entries to date have come from 23 US States and 11 countries as competition will be held in 40 Pro and 7 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs in the popular race.

MONSTER THURSDAY…
Coverage will start on Thursday night at 7 p.m. from the Monster Tecate SCORE Welcome Party at the landmark San Felipe arches. The party, fueled by Monster Energy in association with Tecate Cerveza is open to the public with a $2 donation to Cruz Roja, the Mexican Red Cross organization. The party, which will last until midnight, will preceded by vehicle displays and a racer autograph session from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Among the racers expected at the Monster Tecate SCORE meet and greet are B.J. Baldwin, Cameron Steele, Tim Herbst, Troy Herbst and Robby Bell.
SCORE FRIDAY…
Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, SCORE’s colorful Manufacturer’s Midway on the Malecon in San Felipe will be aired with live coverage from the Dirt Live crew at the Baja Mar restaurant and the day’s coverage will conclude with live streaming of the pre-race racer’s meeting on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Plaza on the Malecon. It will mark the first time in desert racing history that this meeting will be broadcast live on the internet. Norman wil have some special announcements to make at the pre-race racer’s meeting.
SHOWDOWN SATURDAY…
With cameras rolling at 6 a.m. Saturday, day-long coverage will include the start and finish of all classes along with hourly race leader updates and race action footage from out on the race course. Cars and trucks will start at approximately 10:30 a.m., three and one-half hours after the last Sportsman ATV leaves the start line. The extensive coverage will include extended air time for both the motorcycle/ATV finish as well as the car/truck finish.
CELEBRATION SUNDAY…
After Saturday’s battle of Baja, Sunday’s SCORE awards ceremony at 10 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) at the plaza on the Malecon on the picturesque Sea of Cortez will be broadcast live for the first time in the history of desert racing. Coverage will include special interviews from the Dirt Live set with many of the class winners and top finishers in SCORE’s 2013 season opener, the second round of the new World Championship of Desert Racing bonus points program being held in conjunction with the Roger Norman’s other desert racing organization—the High Desert Racing Association.

In its 40th year as the world’s foremost desert racing organization in 2013, the three-race 2013 SCORE Desert Series, with all three massive special events held in Baja California, Mexico, starts with this weekend’s 27th MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF DESERT RACING
The 2013 SCORE Desert Series will also be part of the quickly-evolving World Championship of Desert Racing, which will combine points accumulated in the three SCORE Baja races along with points earned from three of the four-race 2013 HDRA Series, all held in the United States. Both the SCORE and HDRA series will crown their own individual class and overall point champions as well with a bonus purse for those racers who qualify for the World Championship of Desert Racing points bonus purse program to earn a desert racing World Champion title.
With a growing total, for the inaugural World Championship of Desert Racing bonus purse, an official total of $45,000 has been posted to date from new SCORE sponsors Amber Racing Services ($25,000), King Shocks ($10,000) and Rigid Industries ($10,000).
For car and truck classes with at least five starters in each qualifying race in 2013, the World Champion titles will be decided on combined points from the three SCORE races and three HDRA races with the bonus purse paid using the same formula based on total purse and number of starters in each class as is used currently for each SCORE race.
For the pro motorcycle and ATV classes, the World Championship of Desert Racing will include points earned in the three SCORE Baja races as well as the AMA National Hare and Hound race to be held during the HDRA Reno 500.

In addition to season class point championships and World Championship titles, the racers are also competing for part of the nearly $400,000 in cash purse and contingency postings each race. There are also annual SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year Awards including the MasterCraft Safety SCORE Rookie of the Award that also receives a $2,000 cash bonus and custom-made driver’s race suit. Drivers in the Pro car and truck classes are also attempting to earn prestigious SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards given to all car and truck class drivers who complete every required mile of the race season. These awards are being presented by Toyota Motorsports for the 28th consecutive year.

Norman acquired ownership of the world-renown SCORE International on Dec. 20, 2012 from Sal Fish, 73, the iconic godfather of desert racing who ran SCORE for 39 years.
As a hotel/casino owner in northern Nevada, business developer and a champion racer, Norman re-started the High Desert Racing Association, (HDRA) in 2011. HDRA was highly regarded when it was active originally in the 1980s and early 1990s. HDRA was actually bought out by Sal Fish in the early 90’s, thus making SCORE the dominant racing organization. Things have come full circle as HDRA owner, Norman, now buys SCORE.
