Team JB Off Road Racing / Lazer Star Lights’ equipped Kyle Chaney wins UTV Rally Raid Series Opener

The series opener in Tennessee was greeted by rough track conditions and cold weather, however Chaney looked at home and pulled a comfortable lead from the field at Windrock. “He definitely showcased the capabilities of the essentially stock Maverick 1000R X rs in the Tennessee mountains during this rugged four-hour event,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager of Can-Am, “This was a very big victory for Kyle, the Can-Am Maverick and BRP and we will build upon this success as the season progresses.”
The 33 side-by-side vehicles awaited at the starting line with the sun setting on a wet eight-mile course. Chaney, who started from the fourth row, work his way through the dense pack 33 of him to take over the Class C (unlimited) lead. Towards the second half the race Chaney took the lead and finished the 15 laps with a six minute lead.
Three hours into the race temperatures dropped to below freezing, adding snow and ice to the pitch black conditions. Chaney’s Lazer Star Lights’ equipped Can-Am combatted the night with ease. “The Endeavour LED light bar really helped take the edge off trying to race in pitch black, icy conditions,” said Chaney. “It almost felt like cheating, Lazer Star’s LED light bars are unbelievably bright.”
It was the first competitive victory for Chaney and the 101-horsepower Lazer Star Lights equipped 2013 Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs. “The new Can-Am Maverick performed extremely well for me the entire four hours of the race. The handling is incredible,” said Chaney. “Despite the mud and snow, the Maverick worked really great in all the changing conditions that the course could throw at it.”
The UTV Rally Raid event and series served an important confidence booster for Chaney and Team JB Off Road Racing as they prepare for the 2013 Grand National Cross Country series. Chaney and the Maverick will make their GNCC series debut March 16, in Washington, GA.
