Ultra4 MetalCloak Nor-Cal Stampede Nor Cal Stampede Welcomes Toughest Racers in the World
New ULTRA4 race scheduled for April 5th& 6th in Northern California
For the first time ever, ULTRA4 Racers are set to descend upon Northern California for the MetalCloak Nor Cal Stampede. Most of the drivers registered for this inaugural event are fresh from competing in the 2013 Griffin King of The Hammers Presented by Nitto Tire, considered to be the toughest one day off road race in the world. ULTRA4 drivers are competing for both a $10,000 purse and a spot in the 2014 King of The Hammers. The top 10 finishers at the Stampede will qualify for the 2014 event held in Johnson Valley, California, Many of these vehicles have undergone extensive repairs since completing the February race that saw only 27 of the 129 cars finish after a grueling 14 hours.
ULTRA4 races combine high speed desert and extreme rock crawling. The vehicles are unlimited 4 wheel drive machines that can run as much horsepower as they want. Some cars have turbos and super chargers and the tire size on these vehicles typically ranges from 35″ to 42.” The one requirement for these unlimited vehicles is that they all must have a transfer case capable of 4 wheel drive.
The format for the Northern California race is a two mile lap track with tight turns, rock obstacles and high-speed straight sections. The race is timed and the driver with the most laps in a given timeframe will be declared the winner. Spectators will have great views of the course as they watch drivers compete head to head with as many as 21 cars on the track at once.
On Friday, ULTRA4 drivers will compete in four preliminary heats. The four fastest drivers from each heat will automatically qualify for Saturday’s main event. The remaining drivers will still have two chances to earn an entry into the main event. The remaining drivers will be split into two heats racing on Saturday morning. The two fastest drivers from each of those races will also earn a spot in the finals. The remaining racers will compete for series points in a B Main event and the fastest driver from that race will also earn a spot in the final race. 21drivers will take the green flag for the main event Saturday Afternoon.
The MetalCloak Nor Cal Stampede is also the first race in the Trail Gear Western Regional ULTRA4 series. The next event in the series will be held at Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California in May. West Coast drivers with the most points will be invited to take part in the 2013 ULTRA4 Nitto National Championship in September in Texas.
Saturday will be an action packed day of racing with UTV, Stock and Modified 4 wheel drive vehicles also racing. Many of these vehicles also competed at the King of the Hammers in a race known as the Every Man Challenge Race which is a modified version of the main event. These vehicles are no strangers to high speed and extreme rocks.
