Fun in the Sun Cut Short for Brandon Arthur at Freedom 250

Brandon AurthurWhat was supposed to be a fun family weekend and a chance for the pit crew to hone their skills turned into a bit of a disappointment for Brandon Arthur at the MORE Freedom 250. Brandon started 7th and at the drop of the flag started moving up the order. He had already passed 4 other class one competitors in his Pro Traffic Services / Competitive Metals / HRT Motorsports #56 Trophy Truck when a rock on the course clipped the driveshaft causing a vibration. They pulled into the Checkers pit where they made a quick assessment of the problem. Brandon decided to go on to the main pit where they could change out the driveshaft.

Brandon’s crew changed out the shaft and sent him back out. The down time dropped Brandon back to fourth or fifth place but he was quickly regaining lost ground. “We were on a pace to kill it,” said Todd Arthur, “Brandon replaced the engine we damaged at The Mint 400 and we made some adjustments to our FOX shocks to handle the additional power. The truck was working real good.”

Brandon was closing in on third place overall when he landed hard after a big jump. The front lower arm buckled under the heavy g-forces. Brandon corrected quickly, maintaining control as the truck veered off course. His quick reflexes saved what could have been a bad crash. “The truck was real fast,” says Brandon, “I think we were in a good spot to win the race overall. The arm must have been damaged at the Mint. We should have caught it but really, we were just out to have some fun.” The team didn’t do a full prep job after the Mint. They were focused on replacing the engine and Brandon had school and a Skills competition that took up his free time.

Brandon has been away from racing for a couple of races while he competed in the state finals of Skills USA automotive competition. The highest placed high school junior, Brandon finished fourth in the entire state behind three high school seniors. He is well on his way to becoming a professional automotive technician as well as a top notch driver.

Brandon ArthurAs if all that was not enough, Brandon has been working on his Prolite truck that will be hitting the Lucas Oil Off Road Series in 2014. Brandon got his start racing shortcourse in a Trophy Kart; winning the M4SX series championship in 2008. “I am excited to get back to shortcourse racing,” said Brandon, “I can’t wait to race with the guys I started with like Sheldon Creed, Bradley Morris and Myles Cheek. It’s going to be tough but it’s definitely going to be a blast!”  Todd explains, “We will be racing both trucks in 2014. Our family loves the desert, we will fix the truck and be at the MORE/SNORE chili cook-off race Sept. 7th to do the testing and tuning we want to accomplish. We will be there to do some stops after dark, practice installing our Rigid Industries lights during competition and of course, because it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
