Mike Johnson and Radar Tires Racing Earn 12th Place Finish at LOORRS Round 8
Singapore, 23 June 2013 – Looking to shake the gremlins from Saturday’s Lucas Oil Off Road Racing (LOORRS) Round Seven, Mike Johnson and Radar Tires Racing battled through the highly-competitive and aggressive ProLite Unlimited class on Sunday to earn a 12th place finish at Miller Motorsports Park.
Following Saturday’s action-packed and truck-damaging event, driver/owner Mike Johnson and the team worked late Saturday and early Sunday morning repairing the front end damage incurred to the No. 31 Bronson Motorsports Toyota Tacoma sponsored by Radar Tires. The efforts paid off as Johnson and the team showed to be a powerful force during Sunday’s 14-lap event.
Johnson, aboard the Radar Tires Racing machine, started 23rd of the 25 ProLite Unlimited competitors. On the opening lap, he was spun by one of his competitors in turn four. Johnson’s quick reaction and recovery enabled him to rejoin the race and was quickly chasing down the pack. In six laps, Johnson reached the 15th position.
He remained competitive and cautiously aggressive throughout the 14-lap event. Johnson ran a race-high position of 10th place but finished in 12th position after struggling with brake issues.
“The Radar Tires Toyota was on a charge today despite starting back in the field,” Mike Johnson said. “We started 23rd, got spun on the first lap, and worked our way into 15th position in six laps! We continued our forward progress and made it as far as 10th place on lap 12. If we didn’t have those brake issues near the end, we would have had a top-10 finish. The truck was hooked up and we were showing our potential until the brake pedal went soft.”
The two-day event at Miller Motorsports Park featured Lucas Off-Road Racing Round 7 Saturday and Round 8 on Sunday. Radar Tires, Bronson Motorsports and Johnson competed in both races and earned 11th and 12th place finishes, respectively.
The team is steadily making progress during the LOORRS races this season. One objective the team has is to test and develop a new chassis during the month-long break.
The next race for Radar Tires Racing and driver Mike Johnson is the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Rounds 9 and 10 at Glen Helen Raceway Park in San Bernardino, CA on July 21-22.
