K&N Filters from MTA – Another in the Borneo Series

kn2Borneo presents some unique challenges.  Despite the fact that we are going during monsoon season we fully expect to eat plenty of dust.  There will be about 30 vehicles in the expedition and certain stretches of trail promise to be very dusty.  The combination of dust and the potential for swamping the engine multiple times on this trip create a rather special problem related to filters.

When we called MTA (Motorcycle Tires and Accessories) they recommended the K&N Air Filters specifically because they can be washed and re-used and the Drycharger (sometimes called Outerwear or pre-filter) helps shed small amounts of water that might get splashed into the filter chamber and stops larger debris from clogging the filter.    With regular cleaning this filter will last many seasons.

We will be taking along out old stock filter just in case we swamp the RZR and need to get going before the K&N has a chance to dry out.

Every K&N oil filter is equal to or will exceed all OEM specifications. Our filters contain a modern synthetic filter media, designed for ultimate flow with less pressure drop, kn1yet engineered for outstanding filtration to meet or exceed all OEM specifications. K&N powersports ‘spin-on’ oil filters feature a heavy-duty metal can. Most of these have a 17mm nut affixed onto the end that allows for easy installation and removal. The 17mm nut is crossed-drilled so racers can safety wire the filter to their rig.

Since Oil filters are disposable we are taking two K&N Oil filters.  We expect oil changes primarily because of swamping the engine.
