In 2009 Short Course racing finally returned to Arizona with the start of the Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series; However local Arizona racers and fans hungered for more. Now in 2010 a new series founded by Local racer Tim Jones and with lot of help from other racers and fans; He has created the Arizona Short Course Championship.

The Inaugural ASCC race took place on Friday and Saturday February 26th and 27th, at Speedworld Offroad Park in beautiful Surprise, Arizona. Action started Friday with practice and a trophy dash. With entries a bit low due to the race being the weekend before the first LOORRS race of the season, wouldn’t stop racers and fans alike from having a great time and experiencing some of the most exciting short course action Arizona has seen. The trophy dash was 4 laps for each class, with the brother team of Scotty and Parker Steele sweeping 1st in both of the trophy Kart classes. Brian Cannon beat out Dustin Smith for the win in 1450, and with Todd Wyllie dominating overall and Heavy Metal classes. Carl Rohrer swept the win in the desert buggy class, and Kevin McCullough took the win in the short course buggy class. That would conclude a great day of racing.

Sunday would be the second day of the event. With the stock truck class racing today everyone knew it was going to be an exciting day of racing, with lots of carnage as well. The first races of the day were the heat races, which were 6 laps for all classes. When the dust settled Steven Arlia would be the only one to finish in stock class; however he was close on the bumpers of the 1450 trucks. Brian Cannon once again dominated the 1450 class. Todd Wyllie would dominate the overall truck and heavy metal class. A hard fought battle broke out in the desert buggy class, where Will Wing would emerge victorious. In the short course buggy class Ron Dalke would beat out Lindsay Geiser for the win.

In the brand new R1 rhino class unveiled at the ASCC race. The R1 class is a spec UTV class where the utv has a 1000cc street bike motor powering it. Tyler Herzog would beat Robert Vanbeekum in a close race for the win. Last but definitely not least was the trophy karts. They were broken up into two classes the peewee and mini class. In The peewee class Tyler Avelar would beat his eight other competitors for the win. In the mini class there was another close race, with Connor Mcmullen sweeping the checkered flag in a hard fought battle with the eight other competitors. Next was the big show the main event, where each racer would battle to cross the finish line first. These races were fourteen laps, first up was the peewee trophy karts, which started in a land rush start with nine karts barreling into the first turned caused a lot of action. Scotty Steele would take the win in the class. Next was the mini trophy karts these ten kids were highly competitive, not afraid to push one another out of the way, Connor Mcmullen would win the race. After that was the high flying R1 UTV class, and Tyler Herzog would win another hard fought battle with Robert Vanbeekum.

Next was the infamous land rush start of the trucks and buggies which proved to be exciting. Ron Dalke would win the unlimited buggy class and Lindsay Geiser would beat Kevin McCullough for the win in limited buggy and the first podium in the Geiser family, at least in short course. The truck class would be just as exciting with the high flying action of the unlimited trucks and never die spirit of the stock class. In the stock class Steven Arlia would win the stock class. Brian Cannon would lay down another great race and win in 1450. Scott Martenson would beat Todd Wyllie in a hard fought battle for unlimited truck; however Todd would still win the heavy metal class. That would concluded an awesome weekend of racing and a great first race and start of the season for the ASCC with all racing on time and no major problems the ASCC series will be here to stay.
