Roush Yates Wins in Sprint, Dirt, and Autocross

| July 11, 2011

From East to West, Roush Yates’ power was muscle-flexing around the country this weekend and the wins came rolling in. Randy Martin and Chuck “The Cobra” Hebing ruled the Sprint Car series with their Ford 360 engines, as Mike Maier captured his first win of the season in the Goodguys Autocross series. Meanwhile, Scott Bloomquist continued his quest for the Lucas Oil Late Model Series Championship by winning his eighth race of the season.

Martin has had a tough year in the Sprint 360 series but Friday night he came to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, with only one thing on his mind – winning. Although the low groove seemed to be the quickest early in the race, Martin was one the few to try the high side and the horsepower from his Roush Yates Ford made it work. He gained momentum on the top and took the lead on lap eleven to win the $1,200 purse event.

“We were actually planning on running low, but the leaders were down there early,” said Martin, a native of California, Missouri. “I was losing ground down there, so I went up top. It had been a while since we had won one, so it was a good deal. We’re getting the Ford better and I can’t wait for the new one we’ll have before (Knoxvillle) Nationals.”

Martin continued his successful weekend by capturing another win Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Twin Features at Knoxville Raceway. This marked Martin’s 18th career win at Knoxville, tying him for third all-time.

Hebing has made a habit out of dramatic Sprint Car finishes at Utica-Rome Spedway and continued his streak at the 25-lap Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint/SUNY Canton Series. Hebing led the final lap of the race to score his second ESS victory of 2011 in his Roush Yates-powered Ford 360. This was Hebing’s fifth career Sprint Car win at the Utica-Rome Speedway and his 14th overall ESS win.

Mike Maier of Maier Brothers Racing recently purchased a used Roush Yates 358 CID Nationwide Engine for Autocross racing in a1966 Ford Mustang. After help from Roush Yates Performance Products on the best techniques of setting up the engine and the best products to go with it, Maier won the Autocross race in the 14th Annual Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, OH this weekend. Maier showed up ready to race and captured wins on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon.

The Goodguys Nationals brings in over 6,000 cars from throughout the U.S. and Canada including hot rods, customs, classics, and muscle cars.

“It feels good,” said Maier. “This entire group of drivers is awesome.  I want to thank Roush Yates Engines for all their help as we prepared this car. They have been wonderful to work with. Every corner was critical today. It was close.”

Scott Bloomquist made it three-in-a-row in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series on Saturday night as he won the “Clash at the Mag” at Magnolia Motor Speedway. The 47-year-old hall of famer beat out his arch rival Billy Moyer to earn his eighth win of the season and the 34th of his career.

“The car was just flawless again tonight, and I can’t say enough about how we’re running,” said Bloomquist. “The crew has done a great job with preparing the car and the Roush Yates Ford continues to run exceptionally well. We gained some points tonight on Jimmy Owens. We feel good about where we are right now.”

Bloomquist is now only 15 points shy of the Championship lead.  The “Clash at the Mag” can be seen on SPEED at 1PM Eastern Time on July 31st.
