Fulton Celebrates 100 Years of Innovation

| September 14, 2011

Good brands come and go, but the best ones last and last. In 2011, Fulton celebrates 100 years in the trailer industry. The event is being recognized with a year-long 100-year anniversary promotion: “Celebrating a Century Up Front.”

“What we’re celebrating is not just our longevity,” says Todd Walstrom, V.P./G.M. of Cequent Performance Products Trailer Division, “but also the innovation and leadership that made it all possible. Everyone here is a part of that. Our engineering and testing personnel are top notch. The value of their expertise and experience in designing and fine tuning each Fulton product can’t be overstated.”

Fulton started out as a sales organization for automotive accessories in 1911. In 1913, Fulton began manufacturing its own parts and accessories for the automotive aftermarket. Fulton quickly became a leader in the trailer industry, a status cemented during World War II with the development of a stamped steel trailer coupler in response to a war-related shortage of malleable cast iron.

That innovation has been followed by many others in the years since. Fulton has introduced many couplers, jacks, winches, and other equipment for the trailer industry, particularly in marine trailer applications. Many of these products featured new developments that continuously re-shaped expectations of both performance and style. Decades of experience in the field have helped perfect Fulton products.

Most recently, the development of the sleek, high performance line of Fulton F2 products has begun a revolution in the industry. “A lot of product expertise and field experience went into the F2 line,” says Walstrom, “Each F2 product is a total re-design that makes the most use of modern alloys and new construction techniques. They are the ‘Next Generation of Innovation’ and we are very proud of the results.”

Today, the Fulton brand is recognized worldwide as a leader in trailer parts and accessories. Fulton is used by most marine original equipment manufacturers and is preferred by consumers seeking aftermarket replacements and upgrades. “Celebrating a Century Up Front” is a theme that recognizes not only the accomplishments of Fulton’s design and engineering teams, but also the contribution of original equipment manufacturers who use Fulton products; distributors, dealers and installers who sell Fulton products; and generations of loyal customers who have made Fulton their choice for aftermarket replacements and upgrades.

The contributions of Fulton’s distribution chain, from OEM to distributor and dealer are being rewarded with “Celebrating a Century Up Front” promotional support. In addition to consumer marketing meant to drive demand, there are also future promotions with select F2 products. These activities are set for launch in April.

Many consumer and dealer events will include appearances by Brent Chapman, a professional fisherman sponsored in part by Fulton. Chapman is a 9-time BASS Master Classic Qualifier. “Being a professional fisherman, I demand reliability in the products I use,” says Chapman. “The Fulton F2 winch allows me to trailer my boat faster and the Fulton F2 jack allows for easy maneuvering on some of the roughest surfaces that we encounter on the tournament trail. The double wheel feature makes it far superior to any other jack I have used.”

Meeting the century mark is no small achievement, but this is only the latest milestone for a company that isn’t standing still. “We are proud of our heritage and our reputation for innovative design and manufacturing,” says Walstrom. “It is a responsibility of leadership we pledge to continue.”
