Important Wilderness Meeting Announcement – Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg holds important meeting on massive new Wilderness in Montana

| April 18, 2012

blueribbon-coalition-logoThe BlueRibbon Coalition just received word from our partners in Montana that Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today announced his intention to hold a public listening session to discuss the implications of the Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act, introduced by Senator Max Baucus and cosponsored by Senator Jon Tester.

The bill would expand Montana’s already abundant Wilderness by approximately 67,112 acres; as well as designate a massive 208,160 acre “Conservation Management Area.” The bill would affect public lands along the Rocky Mountain Front east of Choteau and Augusta.

Motorized recreationists are concerned about this new “Conservation Management Area” after Senator Baucus described it as: “208,160 acres of Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management land will be managed to keep things the way they are and protected from unwanted changes such as excessive motorized use and road building.”

Rheberg’s meeting is an excellent opportunity to discuss exactly what protecting these lands from “excessive motorized use” will mean to future recreation and access.

The Rehberg Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act Listening Session will take place this Saturday, April 21 at 2:30 PM. Right now the location is at the Choteau Country Club (1502 Airport Rd). However, the location may be moved to the high school gym.

We will blast another update when we learn whether or not the meeting will be at the Choteau Country Club or the High School.
