Geoffrey Cooley Getting Hotter Every Lap Is No Surprise.

| May 25, 2012

12loorrs_rnd56_cooley_1Surprise, AZ – Geoffrey Cooley’s driving and the desert temperatures got much hotter in rounds 5 and 6 of the Lucas Oil Off-road Racing series at Speedworld in Surprise, Arizona. Triple digit temperatures and Geoffrey’s continuously increasing speeds where the hot topic all weekend.

Geoffrey was 10th fastest after practice on Friday, qualified in 9th later that day and then finished 6th in round five and on the podium in 2nd place after round six. His results keep him in the top three in the season long points championship a position he has maintained all year.

Every track on the schedule will seem brand new as the rookie Unlimited Buggy racer learns the fast way around in the bigger cars:

“I have to learn how to attack each track this season in the Unlimited Buggy,” said Geoffrey, “It’s so different from the Limited Buggy I drove last year; there is a lot going on in the car. You have to use the cutting brake in every corner just to get around. I’m racing against guys with years of experience in open wheel cars, there’s no room for error.”

12loorrs_rnd56_cooley_3“My first priority is school so we don’t get a lot of test time right now. We do our best to show up ready and the rest is on me to do well. We ran all weekend without making any changes so I owe a lot to the crew; my Dad, Matt, Brian and Paul. After I graduate from High School this year I can arrange my college schedule to free up more time for testing.”

The Arizona heat took a toll on the drivers and their cars. Temperatures in the drivers’ seat were hovering around 115 degrees. The heat taxes every moving part and dries the track out quickly making it slick and dusty.

Geoffrey showed great skill battling out front with some of the best drivers in open wheel shortcourse racing. Of course, he will be the first to give credit to all his sponsors who make it possible for him to be so competitive.

12loorrs_rnd56_cooley_2Geoffrey and the team next head to Tooele, Utah for rounds 7 and 8 on June 23rd and 24th where they will face a tough track that always has an impact on the point standings. Rest assured the car will be perfectly prepped for the race and Geoffrey will be at the top of his game behind the wheel, don’t miss it!
