Freitas Motorsports Ends Season In Tough Shootout With Overall Leaders

| December 6, 2012

freitas_12bitd_h250_01(Henderson, NV) Freitas Motorsports wrapped up the 2012 season with a strong showing at the Best in the Desert, Henderson 250 off road race outside Henderson, Nevada. The team ran up front all day finishing sixth overall, third in the unlimited, 1500 class. The team was in striking distance of the season long championship crown but had a tough hill to climb in order to take it from leader Robby Gordon. “It wasn’t really ours to win, it was Robby’s to lose,” said driver Garrick Freitas, “Regardless of what we did, Robby only had to finish the race to take the championship. We were more concerned with Chuck Hovey who was third in points behind us. We had to run well and beat Chuck to maintain our second place in the standings which we did.”

For a moment, the championship looked to be attainable when Robby Gordon’s car came to a stop due to an electrical issue on the first lap. He was lapped by the entire field but made repairs; continuing to the finish. The Freitas Motorsports, General Tire Jimco did not finish unscathed either. “We started eighth and made up a few spots when the cars in front had flat tires or other mechanical issues,” said Garrick, “We had several long stretches of clean air running up front. The dust is a huge issue on a silty course like this.

We had no flats all day with our General Tires and were going strong until our engine started losing power. I had a hard time climbing hills and getting through some of the sandy washes. I knew it wasn’t going to be about speed but staying clean and driving smooth. The strategy worked and we made it to the finish.”

The Freitas Motorsports team has made a huge name for itself this season with back-to-back wins at the longest race in the U.S., Vegas to Reno and by overcoming adversity at the Silver State 300. Only days before the Silver State race the car suffered damage in a testing crash. After making hasty repairs, they lost the torque converter during qualifying, causing them to start last on race day. They pressed on at the Silver State 300, finishing the race in the top ten. They continued that determination all season finishing every mile of every race. Through it all, they put in the hard work and sacrifice necessary to earn the respect of fellow competitors and many new fans.

freitas_12bitd_h250_04“We have a great team and the best sponsors in the world!” said Garrick, “General Tire has been a huge part of our success and we have continued support from Jimco Racing, Fox Racing Shox, Kroyer Racing Engines, JC Lansdowne, V&T Cattle Co., Dan Freitas Electric, Westside Choppers, SS Shirts and Cal State Distributing. We had a great year but after finishing second in the championship two years in a row we are more motivated than ever to bring home the championship in 2013.”
