Team AMSOIL Lovell Gunning for Repeat Championship in Dodge City

| April 21, 2013

LOVELL RACING image 1The line between glory and defeat can be very thin and the opening weekend of Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL started out in glorious fashion as Dodge City was very welcoming to teams with a parade and autograph session downtown. By the end of the weekend however, Team AMSOIL Lovell was more than ready to “get the hell out of Dodge” after two disappointing races.

AMS OIL IMAGE 2After making numerous setup changes during practice, Lovell started the first round of racing with a lightening fast truck. Starting inside on the second row, he pushed to the front on the first lap and pulled away from the field to score 2 points for leading at the mandatory caution. He would continue to lead for the second half of the race before pushing wide on a slick hairpin turn in the last lap. The move devastated his chances as 3 trucks poured by him before he crossed the finish line in a disappointing 4th place. “We didn’t expect the track to change quite like it did but in the end I have nobody to blame but myself,” added Brad, “On the bright side, we are getting this pro-light wicked fast.”

LOVELL RACING IMAGE 3Undeterred, Lovell lined up for the second nights race and was in a heated battle for 3rd when a competitor pinched off the the inside line forcing Lovell into a concrete barrier cutting a tire in the process. The team scrambled to put on a new tire in the hot pits but on such a short course, the AMSOIL / Torchmate / Nissan went a lap down. Lovell continued to fight hard hoping for a yellow flag and a chance back on the lead lap but fate would not have it. His luck only worsened as a rupture in the steering system caused an engine fire that ended the race for the defending champion. Lovell explains, “Loosing is not meant to be fun and the whole team feels it. It’s part of racing and it’s only going to make us hungrier in Eldora. We have new ideas and finally the time we need to prepare and test for the next two races.”

The next rounds of Traxxas TORC racing will be at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Raceway in Rossburg, OH May 10th & 11th. Racing will be live on the SPEED Channel Saturday night May 11th.
