Twisted Stitch Seats – Another in the Borneo Series

ts2.PNGThe prospect of 12 hour days sitting in the stock seats did not SIT well will me.  Looking at the Borneo trip I knew I needed an upgrade.  It’s not that the stock seats are uncomfortable either, in fact they are quite nice as far as UTV stock seats go.  But they don’t give much real support.  You sit on them rather than in them.  The lateral support is almost non-existant and after a long day in the saddle this becomes important.  The Twisted Stitch Vortex model seat has great upper and lower lateral support.  The lower bolsters keep my big butt from sliding sideways in rough terrain and the upper shoulder bolsters are wide and give my upper torso something to press against.  The combination makes for less strain on your body.  Something I think would add up in the jungle.   The dual port head rest not only looks good it performs an important function on the RZR. The RZR has no built in mounts for safety harnesses.  This means that on a standard setup when the harness is mounted to the bar behind the seats they will tend to spread apart and try to slip off of your shoulders.  The dual ports on the Vortex hold the harness in the optimum position so no slipping allowed.   The seat is very comfortable and roomy.  Unlike some “race seats” I don’t feel squeezed but I do feel contained and supported.

ts1An option you can get, and we did, is the carbon fiber seat heater.  Yeah I know it’s not something we need for Borneo but when we get back to the Rockies it will be full on winter.  Having had heated seats on other vehicles I am looking forward to a nice toasty butt on a cold winter day.  Personally I think cab heaters are a waste, simply blowing warm air at you does little to warm you up.  Seat heaters apply heat directly to your core and if you can keep your core warm everything else will stay warm too.  I highly recommend seat heaters to anyone that rides in even moderately cool weather.  Having the ability to inject heat could mean the difference between a nice ride an hypothermia.  The carbon fiber pads have no wires in the seat, nothing to break and have been proven to last a long time under heavy use.  They draw little power for the heat they put out.  Installation is simple and come with separate controls for passenger and driver.

Twisted Stitch makes seats for all major brands of UTVs and other off-road vehicles.  If you are in Anaheim CA stop by and see them.
I’m actually looking forward to spending really long days in the saddle, thanks Twisted Stitch!
